Umm... What in the name of Steve Harris happened to the Iron Maiden thread? Seems to have disappeared...

So seeing as it was one of the most popular threads in this forum, here's the Iron Maiden Thread v2, discuss away.

As a starting topic, what are your thoughts on the new album? Rumours are that it'll be another Seventh Son-esque concept album, which sounds good to me.

Also, as most know, 'The Essential Iron Maiden' is to be released in the US on 12th July, and the cover image can be viewed here.

I guess them mod-types are cracking down, maybe Iron Maiden was a casualty.

Wasn't only 4 of the songs off of 7th Son... actually concept? I thought the whole thing in its entirety wasn't a concept album, it just had 4 songs that told a story.

EDIT: Yeah, that's a terrible cover. Why the hell did they ditch Eddie? I'd rather see a cool monster than 50 year old men that bear uncanny resemblences to women.

if you're talking about Tyranny of Souls, then yes, its good, and really shows off his voice, the 2 before it, Accident of Birth, and The Chemical wedding are much better as a whole.

And the Essential Iron Maiden is not being made with the band, but by the record company alone, so the band has nothing to do with the cover, hence the lack of eddie.

And the cover for the new dvd, death on the road is much better!

yea the new cover sucks, and why are they're 6 guys shouldnt their only be 5? another cd like powerslave or dance of death would be nice, 7th son of a 7th son has some good stuff on it though also.

For the last 2 albums there's been 6 members, Adrian Smith returned when Bruce replaced Blaze Bayley.

And 'The Essential Iron Maiden' is wholly pointless, as they have 2 'Best Ofs' already, which should suffice for any band, and this one, like ETG, doesn't even have 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' (ie, the song that is the cream of Iron Maiden's long career, and is better than feckin 'Journeyman'.. reed would try to convince you otherwise though ).

That 'Death On The Road' cover is pretty good indeed, though again, the songs are just... 'Rock In Rio' + a bit of 'Dance Of Death'. Which is why I'm only looking forward to Maiden's new material, and not the regurgitated stuff the record company are putting out.

No I'm pretty sure all of Seventh Son is a concept... at least by my interpretation it is. It all flows together like that. However, I have heard both sides of the story.

I'll probably buy that dvd. I would rather just buy all of their albums than a Best of... at least for Iron Maiden.

On the dvd cover, Eddie has intestines and what looks to be hairy tesicles hanging from his scythe.

Out of the majority of the classic metal bands, I've always disliked Maiden.

Something about them just makes me cringe when I hear them. and I think it's Bruce Dickinson's annoying voice.

Yah, best of my ass. Gotta buy all the albums.

..I should talk, I haven't bought any of them, but I will!

And Cradle of Filth's version of Hallowed Be Thy Name is good. Probably the only listenable CoF, imo.

When they say they are Satanic they aren't kidding, they've been sucking Satan (the record company)'s dick the whole time.

The only classic metal band that I can't listen to at all is Judas Priest - I just think they are terrible

But I love Maiden the most out of the 'classic' metal bands - I dont think their music ever gets dated - a lot of Black Sabbath does IMO

COF's version was actually quite good - but I only listened to it once and dont plan on listening to it again.

Eh, Cof raped the solos in that song. And that Dani fellow's voice annoys me, it's like a failed attempt at a proper growl.

I'm kind of new to Maiden, for the longest time I couldn't stand Bruce and the cheesiness of some songs. I gave "The Trooper" a chance and realized why all these people like them.

The CoF version was okay, but Dani is a jackass and ruined it somewhat.

I used to be a pretty big fan of Maiden but I'm sorta getting sick of the power metal vocals.. I prefer death and black metal vocals to be quite honest. I can't stand power metal anymore..... but.. i guess there will always be a place for maiden in my heart.

but maiden isnt power metal!!!

and if you dont like bruce, then check out the paul dianno albums (iron Maiden and Killers) and the 2 blaze ones (The X factor and Virtual XI) The first 2 are very raw sounding. The x factor is their darkest album, and is VERY underrated IMHO and Virtual xi is typical maiden!

Also check out Blaze's solo band, BLAZE, they sound like metallica would have if they fired bob rock after TBA

^They are the main influnce behind power metal, and bands like Edguy and Helloween sound very similar, especially with the vocals, so thats why Iron Maiden are confused with power metal.

Paul and Blaze are good and very unknown, which is why some people who dont like the vocals just give up on iron maiden but IMO Bruce is more suited for maiden.

Has anyone heard of the Iron Maiden video game? I heard about it and thought WTF?

I'm not sure if I like Paul or Bruce better. My first Maiden album was their self-titled. I still love it but I love Number of the Beast, too. I can't decide. I guess I'll just have to purchase them all eventually.

I had an argument last night with someone in chat. He was saying they were Power Metal and I was arguing they weren't. It was never actually settled.

It was the Dean Baby ML wasn't it? And yeah, Ed Hunter was released along with Virtual XI, which explains all the video gamey cover art for that album.

replies
1) Helloween pawn edguy, especially with solos. I can think of a million good helloween songs and just 2 good edguy songs. Don't go comparing Edguy to Helloween ever again.
Helloween - Rabbit Don't Come Easy >>>>>> Edguy - Hellfire Club

2) Blaze is f***ing amazing. Paul's talent on the other hand is questionnable. Bruce, well the truth is he really gets annoying after 10 listenings.

3) I'm downloading it now. It seems to have been released in 1999, so its like 6 years old. Looking at screenshots it appears to be a games similar to that of Sega's House of The Dead but with Maiden background music. I'll post a review later.

His solo CD? which one? he has like 7 or 8.
Of course, his Greatest Hits from his solo carreer is probably the better album

^It's not really his drummer, he uses a band called Tribe of Gypsies
I personally think Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding were his best solo albums. My favorite songs from his solo carreer are probably Tears of the Dragon and Born in '58.

Anybody else here every hear Bruce's pre-Maiden work with Samson?

Thats how bruce met Janic Gers because samson used to get supported by Janics Band of course this was before the days of maiden well sorta you see maiden wer goin but they had Dianno who i think is inferrior to Bruce. Youl notice how much better Bruce is if you compare Dianno singing "Iron Maiden" To Bruce singing it.

Wasn't Janick firstly in Ian Gillen's (famous in Deep Purple) band? And then Bruce's biggest influence is meant to be Deep Purple.

I didnt, i compared both of them to Iron Maiden, they both have Bruce like vocals, not to rip off level or anything, but the vocals sound like Bruce, and that they are both power metal bands that sound a bit like Maiden, rather than Maiden being power.

Um, some kid made a thread a while back about subliminal messages in Maiden's songs, something like "Come on, touch my penis" or something of that flavour. But, other than those penile speculations, I don't know of anything.

He's talking about lyrics buddy, not subliminal messages.
