BrainDamage EDIT: I've decided to re-sticky this thread. I know I used it a lot, plus it will help keep down those recommendation threads that come and go.

Classic Rock Recommendation Thread

Welcome to the UG's Classic Rock Recommendation Thread. The point of this thread is to compile a list of as many bands as we can think of that contains album recommendations for each band, so any user who wants to check out a certain band that falls into the Classic Rock genre/time period can come here and easily find suggested albums to listen to.

Please try to keep this neat and tidy by keeping your recommendations in this format:
Name Of Band:
Genre of Classic Rock: Genre the band fits into (see below)
Year of Debut: The year this band's first album was released (if possible)
Preferred Albums: Albums you would recommend by this band

I will not add your recommendation if you do not follow the format listed above completely. Don't recommend more then three albums and try and stay away from greatest hits collections.

This thread is not for conversation, so only post if you have a recommendation or correction (this does not include what albums you think should be listed. If you have a problem with that, PM BrainDamage. That being said, you can bring up a genre change if you feel it necessary).

JONO EDIT: Do not spam this thread. All posts must be on topic and about a band. Do not complement or make fun of other's suggestions. This will only lead to warnings and/or bans.

Well, Wilty has asked for this to be open again and he shall receive. Not only that but I like this thread and agree that it should be open for more additions

As Jono said before, ONLY post if you have a contribution (whether it be addition or correction or whatever). DO NOT SPAM. Spam will result in warnings/bans.

Try not to recommend an album for a band that already has two or three recommended albums. I'm starting to get annoyed at these little changes people want me to make to fit their own needs.

*NEW COMMENT!* I'm not going to move bands unless I feel it's absolutely necessary. Same with exchanging one album for another. Wilty can do as he pleases.

Recommendation Thread BrainDamage EDIT: 01/12/09 2:24 PM.

Added a ton of bands, deleted posts, fixed one spelling error.

BD, if you could delete all the posts between this one and the last post with bands that'd be good. I'll use this one as an update post... if you change anything around/add stuff/delete/move stuff then just make record of it in here.

(Slightly outdated) Electronic and classical compositions by m'self: Check 'em out
^^he's not technically Classic Rock, but I like what I hear. Sounds kinda like what might have happened if Hendrix had been around for metal

Another band I'd like to recommend:

Band - Montrose
Genre - Hard Rock
Year of debut - 1973
Album - Montrose

Also, I'll go ahead and do my other recommendations over because I don't know if I did it correctly;

Band - The Rockets
Genre - Blues Rock
Year of debut - 1972
Album - Rockets (aka Turn Up The Radio)

Band - Cactus
Genre - Hard Rock
Year of Debut - 1970
Albums - One Way... Or Another and Restrictions

I'd like to propose a little move if I may. Take David Bowie out of glam rock and put him in multi-genre with a few albums added.

Maybe a little something like this:

1967- David Bowie (Psychedelic, Folk, Glam, Pop, Progressive, New Wave) *Space Oditty ~ Hunky Dory ~ Ziggy Stardust ~ Low ~ "Heroes"*

EDIT: I just read BrainDamage's post about moving and additions. But I truly and honestly feel it is quite a necessary move... and the two added albums have short names...

...sorry for the rule breaking.

Hey, what's happenin'? I have a big dump of stuff here that I've been meaning to throw in this thread for about a year now. Got the day off of work, so it's just as good a time as any. Blue Cheer - 1969 - Psycedelic rock - 'Vincebus Eruptum' 'Outsideinside'

The Godz - 1978 - Hard Rock - 'The Godz' 'Nothing is Sacred'
I don't even like to call Guns N' Roses 'Classic Rock' so I won't reccomend them, I'd say Iron Butterfly's Ina Gada Da Vida, or Elvis.

As much as I hate Guns & Roses, I must say that they are Classic Rock.

Sorry Classic Rock...
^^They are not classic rock if you go by our guidelines.
How to achieve Frank Zappa's guitar tone:

Step 1: Buy a Gibson SG
Step 2: Insert Green Ringer, EQ, 3 dead squirrels and a microwave into said SG
Step 3: Plug in and freak the **** out.
80's glam Rock to me always felt like Classic Rock to me. GnR just have a Classic Rock feel to them, you know? But that Slash (Saul Hudson) is so overrated.
^^From the rules of this forum:

"Classic Rock can be generally defined as Rock Music that came into existence between 1955 and 1984. Bands anywhere from The Beatles and The Yardbirds to Bad Company, Aerosmith and Queen belong in Classic Rock. Bands like Guns and Roses, Metallica, Motorhead, Poison are not Classic Rock. The Music must fit the genre."

I wouldn't put Metallica or Motorhead in Classic Rock, god no. But okay.
