i personally think the solo in Iron Man by black sabbath is really good, and also Like the Angel by rise against (plus others too)

gotta go for Tom Morellos glorious "Like A Stone" solo. man that things just lifts the song to another level.

i hope some people pick solos that aren't just about random notes in a key belted out as fast as possible. it's all about the feeling.

Im going to have to say Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix or Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd.

1.) Not Classic Rock

2.) Feeling? Dude how can he play with feeling when he's always screwing around with all his effects.

i like the solo in another brick in the wall, just a nice lil clean solo like it couldnt have been any other solo then that one. i think thats when a solo melds the song together when you can't imagine it being anyother way.......that make any sense?.

I'm not changing anyones opinion, cause I like this solo too, but why does everyone like Whole Lotta Love SO much? I mean, it's good, but, well, it's your opinion, I'll shut up...

Anyways, I really like the solo in Since I've Been Loving You. In fact, that's probably my one of my favorite Zeppelin songs.

1. everybodys talkin bout pantera and rise against, why do i get the grief for pickin tom morello

2. tom morello prob has one of the smallest pedal boards in rock music today. he uses, not abuses, these effects in a whole other way and much of the time it's his fingerstyle or guitar work that makes his stuff stand out. i hardly think he stomps on a box and lets ****ed up **** just happen. just to clear that up!

I think it has to be "Stairway To Heaven" there's the accellerating tempo biuld up from acoustic and then bam, the best solo ever.
Jimmy page recorded it in 2 takes thats how good he is. It covers most of the neck.
Second would have to be Jimmy Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower, the whole song could be considered a solo its that complicated and of course there's the excellent wah solo which gets my nod as number 2 solo of all time.

I think "Comfortably Numb as a close third, although Dave Gilmour just stays and messes round with the E pentatonic scale region of the guitar for most of it.

hey blackalbino, i was replying to DiabolicClowns post that claimed that my choice of tom morello doesn't fit into the classic rock category that this thread is supposed to be about. i just used those as examples of other people who chose solos outside the classic rock genre by mistake.

pantera rock man! everyone knows that!

I agree. Complete genius. Kurt Cobain is like Hendrix, Page, Gilmour, Clapton, and Blackmore rolled into one.

I also have to thank the threadstarter for thinking up such a wonderful and original thread...there is absolutely no way anything like this has ever been done before. Kudos!

^no sarcasm at all!

BrainDamage putting down Pink Floyd? NO! suprising

almost as suprising as me putting down something by the who! like i like the solo in Naked Eye. its really good, considering The Who almost never do solo's like this.

and of course, Comfortably Numb, Heartbreaker (even though its sloppy as hell, i like the effects), and Layla.
