Kansas' "Dust In The Wind" is the first song I ever learned to fingerpick. Took me a few hours to get it down right and from then on I could fingerpick anything.

"Early Morning Rain" by Peter Paul and Mary is one of the most beautiful fingerpicking songs I've heard. If you can listen to country, Robert Earl Keen's "Mariano" and Feelin Good Again," and Cory Morrow's "Just Along For the Ride" are certainly worth checking out. From there you can work down to Creed. The first guy is right, though. Creed doesn't know **** about fingerstyle. Or anything else, for that matter.

'traffic in the sky' by jack johnson is a good starter-- consistent picking progression and 5 different chords i think.

for speed try the intro to "my name is jonas" by weezer.. once again basic chord shapes but faster speed.

if you get really good-- try some nick drake on for size.

do this exercise

with your thumb on your right hand
E--------
B--------
G--------
D---2---2-
A-3-------
E-----3---

with your second and first fingers on your right hand
E-------
B-1--1-
G---0--0
D-------
A-------
E-------

put them together
E----------------
B----1-------1---
G--------0-------0
D------2-------2-
A--3-------------
E----------3-----

that is a basic bluegrass style to unretardate your fingers...start slow and speed it up...
also learn slower things with your fingers instead of a pick (intro to one-metallica)

then throw in Jim croche's time in a bottle
