Randy Rhoads was as good, maybe better that VH, but VH did it first, so he gets my vote.

wow...

that is the hardest poll i've ever taken in my life. GOOD POLL

I adore both EVH and Rhoads. Their impact and influence on metal is uncomparable because it would be so close to call. I chose Van Halen I although I'll feel like voting Blizzard of Ozz the next time I see this thread.

I mean...they came from the same high school.

Randy was a better player methinks, but Eddie has the brown sound, i know he isnt the cleanest player in the world, but its his attack and his tone that smacks you in the face, so Eddie wins. I also think Eddie looks a lot cooler when playing, and he had a frankenstien guitar, the guy rules basically.

I like Blizzard more, but Eddies probably was more influential.

^ but randy influenced many metal guitarists with his work only in 2 years and he was the first neo-classical guitarist.

when the **** did I say Blackmore was a guitar virtuoso or that all virtuosos play in the neoclassical style? learn to read.

Yngwie's playing is a spin off from a school that Blackmore developed though Yngwie obviously went deep into the classical roots, but a lot of Purple's songs had classical cadences and movements and his soloing though rooted a lot in blues, used altered forms of the minor pentatonic scales and harmonic minor forms profusely in his soloing, and he's one of the first guys in rock guitar to profusely use arpeggios which lent his guitar work the classical touch - if you consider Randy Rhoads as a proponent of neoclassical guitar playing, he isn't the first then, Blackmore is. I personally tend to think that all these guys incorporated classical styles in their playing - Yngwie actually made a genre out of it. "Rising Force" is the bible for neoclassical shred guitar.

EVH set the standard's the the 80's rock n' roll scene. In the 80's everyone had their own custom axe, like EVH, everyone went for humbuckers, and such. If it weren't for Eruption, there wouldn't be a Crazy Train solo. Sure, randy was an amazing player, but Van Halen is obviously more influencial

Umm... No he wasn't the first neoclassical guitarist.

And dare I say, EVH influenced a whole lot more people.

I personally like Randy more than EVH - although you cant ignore the latter's position in guitar history.
