Just a few quick things (probably worth skipping over if you're planning on reading)... This has nothing to do with UG other than it's linking on the board, so if there's a record company/artist/musician that doesn't want this here, get in contact with me, not the owner of the site. This is not a religious thing (I'm not in any way religious and I'm sure half the people that'll take interest are), so if you're feeling left out or offended (for some reason) because you don't celebrate Christmas, give it a listen anyway, there's nothing wrong with it (other than some of the quality of it).

Right, now here's the track listing, it's not as alternative & indie as I'd like it to be, but it has a nice selection of bands and artists on it....

The Beach Boys - Little Saint Nick
SNMNMNM - Father Christmas (The Kinks cover)
Elliot Smith - Angel in the snow
Dean Martin - Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
Low - Just like Christmas
The City on Film - O holy blanket
Tom Waits - Christmas card from a hooker in Minneapolis
Henry Mancini - White Christmas
Summer at Shatter Creek - Christmas song (Mogwai cover)
Kind of Like Spitting - Tyco racing set and a Christmas story fifteen times
Magnet - Let it snow
Mark Gardener (w/ Goldrush) - Snow in Mexico (live)
Sufjan Stevens - I saw three ships
Merle Haggard - I wish I was Santa Claus
Okkervil River - Listening to Otis Redding at home during Christmas
The Walkmen - No Christmas while I'm talking
Lifter Puller - Secret Santa Cruz
The City on Film - Fairytale of New York (Pogues cover)

Download the show (28.6Mb - 1hr 2 minutes)
MegaUpload
Yousendit

If you're wondering why I didn't put the Pogues version on the mix, it's because my brother's run off with the CD so I couldn't get the track unless I got it off iTunes and I didn't see the point in that as we do actually have the CD.
I tried making it as Christmas related as possible, hope people enjoy it.

Alice Bonus Show!

Manic Street Preachers - Last Christmas (Wham! cover - live)
Bright Eyes - God rest ye merry gentlemen
The Pogues - Fairytale of New York

Download the show (3.9Mb - 8 minutes 30 seconds)
Yousendit

EDIT: Oh, and if anyone knows of bands named after songs by other bands, please say. I think that'd make quite a good show thing.

Don't worry about it. I could've got The Pogues track if I'd really tried earlier, but in the end you have to settle for what you've got, and it's not too bad a cover, not the original, but Bob's a good musician/singer, and there's a female in the version as well so there's the same kind of play, just for some reason they bleeped out stuff.

It won't let me downlaod it I click download, the box comes up saying "would you like to open this file or save to disc?" I click save to disc. The "okay" button is blanked out. I tried clicking the open button, the "okay" button is still gone. Is something wrong with my computer?

Strange. It works for me Click save, find the folder you want it saved to and then the save button should be there. If not, try again in a bit. I would upload it to yousendit like normal but that's not working for me any more.

EDIT: I'll try yousendit again...

First of all I right clicked on the link there and tried save target as, but the boxes were unclickable as jallas described; it eventually tried to save a .html file, and then realised it was actually the link to megaupload and not the file itself, so then I left clicked it and it worked fine. Perhaps that's what you did wrong Jallas..?

Anyway thanks for this Andrew, I'll listen in the morning, enjoyed the other two but forgot to come back to the threads to post...

^ Isn't 'un', 'one'?
Hope you enjoy Brian.

Shifto: No problem. If people download and don't respond, I don't mind at all, it's just like a recommendation thing, some people will like the stuff, others won't. This one's the most likely so far to be on the won't section.

Well, I had to ask my brother but I think 'un' is 'a'...... so that makes about the same amount of sense.

I think I meant 'le'...

I shall edit.

This is downloading remarkably fast.

These might be common knowledge, but... I think Pretty Girls Make Graves were named after the song by the Smiths, and the Rolling Stones were named after "Rolling Stone" by Muddy Waters.

^ Nice one, cheers. I thought PGMG must've been named after something. Got five bands now.

Bright Eyes was named after the S&G song I believe, but I could be wrong.
Erm, The Futureheads are named after an early Flaming Lips song 'Hit to Death in The Future Head'

that's about all I know :/

There's the Cap'n Jazz/We Are Scientists one which you probably know of..

Only other one I can think of is Aqualung, there's a song by Jethro Tull called that, but I doubt the name is because of that...

Arab Strap/Boy With the Arab Strap - Belle and Sebastian ? I have no idea..

Ooh! What about KC Accidental by Broken Social Scene..?

I also read Oceansize are named after a song by Jane's Addiction

Most of these are guesses.

This is the list so far...

The Smiths - Pretty girls make graves
Muddy Waters - Rolling Stone
Cap'n Jazz - We are scientists
Cap'n Jazz - Scary kids scaring kids
The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band - Death Cab for Cutie
Simon & Garfunkel - Bright Eyes
The Flaming Lips - Hit to death in the future head
Jane's Addiction - Oceansize
Talking Heads - Radiohead
DNA - Blonde Redhead

Arab Strap were around a couple of years before the Belle & Sebastian album I believe. The KC Accidental one sounds good, I'll try look into that and the Jethro Tull one...

EDIT: Broken Social Scene contains members of KC Accidental, so I assume that's the reasoning behind that track.

Origins of Aqualung's name...

The music made him feel like he was either far out in space or deep under water - somewhere you might need some help with breathing, so he called it Aqualung.

I can't download from megaupload.com from my country. Please upload it on depositfiles.com

You know christmas was over 4 months ago right?
I doubt anyone will put it up again. It's not worth it. Oh, and the file's not up on Megaupload anymore either.
