Awesome band. The lead singer has a very nice voice and knows how to use it. Sure the guitar is no Hendrix, but it sounds pretty original and has a nice feel to it. First I heard ''Kissing Families'' and it blew me away, then I got into tunes like Booksmart devil, the fuzz, and creation lake... Overall, the guitar playing is great, the singing of both bassist (female) and lead singer (male) is pretty cool, and yeah..it's a great band.

If you haven't heard of them, you can check them out at:

So does anyone else like them?

I've taken a bit of a liking to them. They're nothing groundbreakng but they do what they do pretty well. May need to pick something up by them to get a real feeling for them.

I've had their EP and full-length for quite a while and I think they're pretty good. It's a bit generic sounding, but good nonetheless.

I believe you're thinking of a different band and/or bassist. The bassist for Silversun Pickups is Nikki Monninger (who is very cute, might I add).

But yeah, good band, I think they're catchy and enjoyable to listen to.

well thought out twinkles is their best song imo so far. I heard that their style was similar to the smashing pumpkins, checked em out and def similar with just a little less chances in song writing and missing the pipes of corgan. still pretty good though

The voice is slightly irritating. Maybe it was just the one song I listened to, though.

Yeah I got Carnavas the other day and it's pretty good. Gonna take a while to really form an opinion but Common Reactor, Well Thought out Twinkles and Lazy Eye are my favorite songs off that record. I haven't listened to enough Smashing Pumpkins to say if they are a rip off or not.

Pretty cool band, i have the album and EP. Favourite song would probably be Kissing Families (probably a little cliche but whatever), that solo and the final chorus is awesome.

Also i dont get the smashing pumpkins thing, i mean i hear an influence but i wouldn't say "they sound like the pumpkins"; Jimmy Chamberlin was never restricted to the same 4/4 beat throughout an entire song. The only similarities i can think of are nasal singer, chick bassist and a similar guitar tone in some songs. Silversun Pickups sound more like they're playing over a grid than the pumpkins ever did, if you know what i mean.

I heard them over the summer at a shoe store, they were playing the video for "Kissing Families". So then I went and downloaded the song, and I liked it....

They're average I guess, I haven't heard too much though.

the silversun pickups are awsome!

they're one of my new favorite bands, but I don't see the Smashing Pumpkins relationship, other than:

same initials - SP
girl bassist
Big Muff Pedal

I don't see any music realated similarities at all, but as you can see under my name, I love the Smashing Pumpkins too.

11 month bump anyone? anyway i've heard a few songs they're not bad kinda catchy. Now for the similarities between them and the pumpkins well the only similarities music wise is the same sorta tone they get on a few songs from using the same pedals as the pumpkins. I think that both in music wise and sonwriting wise the pumpkins blow them out of the water. But all in all not a bad little band

I love me some Silversun Pickups.

The whole "Carnavas" album is great, IMO.

But, like people said before, they aren't groundbreaking. They just have a really good sound, and play some good stuff.

Yea, they do have a shoegaze-y sound to them sometimes.

Especially songs like "Melatonin" and "Dream at Tempo 119", and the little effects barrage in the middle of "Well Thought Out Twinkles" (which is just ORGASMIC to play in real life. ), among others.

See, I adore them. Not original, granted, but great melodies and a good bit of menace. Well Thought Out Twinkles and especially Future Foe Scenarios sound so threatening.

I prefer them to the Pumpkins actually, better singer. I also see some conenctions to My Bloody Valentine, or is that just me?

Yea, it's definitely up there for me. "Well Thought Out Twinkles" is up there for me, because I can play it, and I usually have a slight bias for songs I know how to play.

But "Melatonin" is definitely #2 or tied for first.

"Future Foe Scenarios" is also great. The whole album is fantastic, but those stick out, IMO.
