I searched through the threads and it appears that Helloween doesnt have a thread yet.

Helloween is argueably the most influential power metal band of all time, so they definately deserve a thread in here.

Ill start this off with a topic:

Which of Helloween's singers throughout their history is your favorite and why?

Im gonna go with Andi Deris. He has a wide vocal range and his voice is very suitable to Helloween's music, hes one of the most underrated vocalists in the metal genre.

I never had much of a thing for 'Eagle Fly Free' until about a week ago, hah, great song though, my personal favorite song from any of the 'Keeper' albums is a tie between 'I Want Out' and 'March Of Time'.

Dr. Stein! Damn I love Helloween. The Keeper of the Seven Keys albums kick so much ass. I don't know which one I like better, though.

Id go with:

Keeper Of The Seven Keys Pt. 2
Walls Of Jerico (I misspelled that last word, I know it)
Better Than Raw

Those are 3 amazing albums, though my favorite is 'The Dark Ride' it was only an experimental album, so it has a slightly different sound from the rest of their material.

I LOVE helloween, my favourite band

I prefer andi derris over kiske/hansen. His voice is stronger, better range, more versitale(sp?)

My favourite album is rabbit don't come easy....

new keeper III is great too...

Kiske is a good singer, but a ****ing asshole, lol he turned into a fanatic christian, doesn't play rockmusic anymore and condemns everything metal to be satanist and whatnot.
Helloween is frickin-a-great though, they're touring through Germany now with Primal Fear, but tickets are around 40 Euros, which I don't happen to be liking to spend, so meh. Also I don't like their newer stuff and without the almighty God of power metal Kai Hansen... no.
Die Sonne graut dem Morgen

I thought Rabbit Dont Come Easy was good, but there are a few weak songs. My favorite on there has gotta be "Dont Stop Being Crazy", "Just A Little Sign" is good too though.

helloween is so overrated on the metal forum... I bet everyone knows dragonforce but never heard of helloween

a crying shame I tell you!

I hope you meant "Helloween is so underrated"

Its sad though, all these people have heard of bands that have Helloween as an influence, but they've never even heard of the band that practically shaped Power Metal into the great genre it is.

I just thought Id bump this thread to post an email I recieved from ex-Helloween guitarist Roland Grapow. Most of it has to do with Roland's new band, Masterplan, but there's bits in there about Helloween.

My original message to Roland was:
Hey Roland, my name is Trevor Norris and Im a 15 year old guitarist from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Ive followed Masterplan for a while now and I've noticed that, like most other european metal bands, Masterplan has not yet played any Western Canadian dates, or any Canadian dates at all for that matter, Im curious as to if you plan on coming to Western Canada in the future and if its something that you and the other members of the band would like to do. There are MANY metal fans out here, opposite of what most people think, Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica recently played here and supposedly put on tremendous shows (Sadly, I was unable to attend either of them).

I've been big fan of yours and Uli Kusch's since first hearing The Dark Ride which showcased, in my opinion, some of the greatest song writing (My favorites being The Departed, Mr. Torture and The Dark Ride) in all of Power Metal. Though the album was criticized by many for being too dark, I feel that it was one of Helloween's greatest. What kind of thoughts did you have while writing your material on The Dark Ride? Usually when Im writing songs, I write about things that are important to me, and usually my songs are written after an arguement or a rough day.

I have one last question for you; What kind of advice do you have for me as a guitarist?

Thanks for your time,

Trevor "Wrathchild" Norris

His reply:
Hi Trevor

we would love to play in the US and Canada......but we don't want to loose too much money.

you know, we have to live from our music......but downloading kills our income a lot. time is hard!

first we have to pay to get a working visa for each member and crew member. than the flight tickets ,hotel ,food,

all in all we have to make for 3 shows around 15,000 dollars......which is not possible I guess.

in Europe and South America we have many people coming to the shows, Japan is a hard territory right now as well, but the ticket price is so high that it is ok again. we try hard to get a chance maybe with another band together makes more sense.

The dark ride? I had a terrible time when we wrote the songs, the bandmembers hated each other so much, just Roy Z. kept it together...

he was the only guy supporting and helping my song writing.. since than we are good friends.

for my taste...the dark ride reflected the band situation at that time very good,

honestly I love the album and production. I played some of my most tasty solo parts there and always said to myself....I?m very proud to finished my Helloween career with a good + strong album.

advice for a guitar player??? I just tell you what I was missing a little in my career..... find a great guitar player and get lessons from him.

specially about melody/harmony and song structure....... just a good song makes a good guitar player......

I don't care about shredding and technical scales anymore....try to get a good tone and style...... play melodies you could whistle, which

people can remember or sing along with.... playing crazy, or technical and wild is also great to have some different styles.......

but don't play just to impress other guitar player..........they are not buying the albums haha

I learned everything by myself and from other band members mostly when I was 15 till 20...

I had 3 month private harmony lessons from a Spanish guitar player, it was very helpful, but I was already in Helloween, haha long time ago.

take care and hope to see you on tour in Canada

yours, Roland

awesome^ i have to admit though, i was one of those dragonforce etc listeners who hadnt heard of helloween but i found out about them about a week ago and bought keeper of the seven keys part 1 and i think its awesome, great band. i also like edguy, iced earth, demons and wizards and that kinda **** by the way

I've seen them live 14th februari... so damn awsome to see my favourite band live...

What I didn't espect was that Ronald didn't play a lot of solo's... I've always seen him as leadguitar... Sacha played almost all of the solo's (good thing 'cause we stood right in front of him...)
