I have Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and listened to it almost constantly through the summer. Haven't listened to them in quite a while, but they're a very good band.
#3
I seen them along with Rush, AC/DC and The Stones in Toronto in '03. From what i remember they were pretty good.
#5
I do really like the singles, but that's all I've heard of them....they're on my To Do List...
#6
You ought to get "Hit To Death In The Future Head". I'd rate that 8/10.
Yoshimi is very well composed. I like the overall theme of robots, love, despair and overcoming things.
You rated Zaireeka a 10? Are you nuts! There is no other album harder to listen to than that, but what they did with it is amazing. The whole concept of it makes it one of the ultimate stoner albums(s).

They're a very good band, and I enjoy listening to them once in a while. I think they're bringing out a new album this year, so that should be good.
Yoshimi is their best song. But 'Thank you Jack White (for the fibre optic Jesus that you gave me) is also very good- It's a song about how Jack White gave the guy a fibre optic Jesus, if you hadn't guessed.

They also do a cover of "Seven Nation Army" that's pretty damn good. Dare I say, better than the original?

I have Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, but I really don't like it too much. Just not my style.

I don't know their actual music, but I like the remix of Do You Realize by The Postal Serivce. The lyrics, however, depress me.

I just heard At War With The Mystics, and I love it. I'm a fan of the Yeah Yeah Yeah Song.

I heard that on the radio the other day and I too am a fan of it.

It's not that it's overwhelmingly awesome (though it is good), it's just I never really cared for that song and they put a nice little spin on it. Not many songs I don't like by The White Stripes, but "Seven Nation Army" is one of them. That and "We're Going to Be Friends".

I love them, and hopefully the album on Monday should be good

Soft Bulletin is classic, their best IMO. I really would like to see them live, from what I've heard their one of the best live bands around. My friend saw them a few years ago on new years eve with Wilco says it was the best show ever, they even had huge ballons fall from the ceiling.

It's out April 4th, and what I've heard of it has been really good.

They're fun. I only have "Yoshimi," but I haven't listened to it much. I'll give it another listen soon.

Just picked up the Soft Bulletin, haven't had a proper chance to listen to it, just the first few songs in the car being interupted by stops, and conversing, but I don't think it is that much better than Yoshimi. But we'll see how that turns out after I listen to it properly.
#34
i saw them a pbs the other night they played really well thinking of picking up a cd

any suggestions ?

I just got At War With The Mystics tonight and the on the first listen I wasn't too impressed. There's 3-4 cool songs but there's also a number of boring instrumental sections that sound like they're straight off Yoshimi. That's the reason I can't listen to Yoshimi all the way through. The Soft Bulletin is by far the best albums I've heard from them.

Summer...Thurston mentioned it quickly, but I don't know if it is really happening. And if so, I don't know where or when, other than summer.

Edit: The Sonic Youth Tour dates were just updated:

April 20 Nouveau Casino, Paris, France
June 18 Bonnaroo Festival, Manchester, TN
July 6 MGM Grand, Las Vegas, NV with Pearl Jam
July 7 Cox Arena, San Diego, CA with Pearl Jam
July 9 Forum, Los Angeles, CA with Pearl Jam
July 10 Forum, Los Angeles, CA with Pearl Jam
July 13 Santa Barbara Bowl, Santa Barbara, CA with Pearl Jam
July 16 Bill Grahm Civic Auditorium, S.F. CA with Pearl Jam
July 18 Bill Grahm Civic Auditorium, S.F. CA with Pearl Jam
August 5 Lollapalooza Festival, Chicago, IL

With all of those dates I don't know if the Flips, and SY will be able to tour together.

Welcome back man!

I really like the ad for the new album (takes off the Subterranean Homesick Blues video, very cool)
