Well, there's a Van Halen thread on the "Classick Rock" forum but it's also ok to have one here, but most of the people on that thread are pretty negative about Eddie's decisions about the band and most of 'em have good points. Anyways, he's one of the greatest rock innovators no doubt. Great musician but he has to work on giving fans a little bit of what they want. He seems a bit selfish..

I don't like much Van Hagar...DLR gave Van Halen the kickass attitude they used to have. Hagar made VH pussy-like rock..

It's fun music, I use it to get pumped up sometimes.

I occasionally mix up Panama and Jump when I'm thinking about the songs in my head, not really sure why.

^ Amen. I really can't get into them, they always seemed too pop rockish to me, or party rock. That and his stuff is very simple, not at all complicated, just played fast.

I dont really get why van halen with sammy hagar gets the bad rap. I mean it sounds more like a full band with hagar singing. When i listen to something like Summer Nights or 5150 i don't get the connection with journey . They rocks both times.

David Lee Roth was a better singer, well he has a bigger range. When they were live Hagar is more consistant and stays closer to in key. He had really good lyrics compared to DLR, whose lyrics didn't make sense.

But thats just my opinion.

Well, Sammy's stage prescence isn't that great..DLR's is ****en untoppable. Sammy's just way to normal and pussy. Dave's just a crazy bastard, and better frontman that sammy...understandable lyrics or not.

What songs/albums did the different frontmen play on?

I like Van Halen a lot, but the only CDs i have are their greatest hits and 1984.

I think they're an awsome band who produced a lot of fantastic songs, and EVH'g guitar playing rules.

Well, the DLR albums where their first five and the rest where with Sammy, exept for Van Halen III which was with Gary Cherone.

this thread seems to be nothing more than a debate about which VH singer is better--come on, this is a GUITAR forum...

So, can ANYONE here play Spanish Fly? I can play most of it on an electric although i'll admit it took a lot of time 'speed training' with Guitar Pro but how the hell he gets that tapping to sound so fluid on a classical--downtuned or otherwise--is beyond me.

i'm not even that big a fan of VH, i find their songs largely uninspiring--dont flame me--i really want to like them, i mean i dont mind listening to Jump, Aint talkin' bout love, panama, etc but they havent really affected me in any way--except for Spanish Fly=Eruption doesnt really give me any problems but SP-

Im not trying to say that VH is better than Di Meola or the other wealth of flamenco/acoustic virtuosos out there, BTW.

Hey, i like Journey, but I like DLR's more hard, fun rock and Sammy Hagar's power ballads and such, especially Right Now.
