i dont know the name of their first album, buts the cover is like the 2nd accept instead of pink its orange, may be the remix i dont know im not really an expert.

Yeh they do get repetative, i couldnt listen to the enitre album, but there good once in a while

can anyone tell why their indie? i put this thread in the metal section and got flamed. I thought they were like hardcore heavy.

They're not really metal/hardcore. They have more of an indie flavour to them (also they are an actual "indie" band being not signed to a major record label) but I do agree, they are a little heavier than most bands in this genre. I like them, though.

Their first album was You're a Woman, I'm a Machine and their second album (Romance Bloody Romace) was just a release of remixes and B sides of their first album, not really all new material, just mostly reworked material.

The other record's called Heads Up!, and it's more of an EP really. Still good.

Yeah, that's more of an EP. They also have the EP for the single "Romantic Rights" from You're a Woman, I'm a Machine.

Yeah they're okay. I jus find that all the songs sound the same. I don't think they're gonna last long by playing the stuff they do now.

Death From Above are really cool. Sure, they may get repetitive after a few listens, but it's still good. The drummer's got a cool voice though.

Also, the riffs are pretty cool for the bass Romantic Rights has an awesome riff in my opinion.

whats the actual definition if "Indie"?

depends on who you ask. if the person telling you the definition is a death cab for cutie fan, then there's a good chance you are being lied to
#17
death from above is sweet.

^and i'm a death cab for cutie fan. i could tell you what indie is. without lying.
if i cut off your arms and legs
and wrap you in some fucked-up cocoon,
would you still look at me and say
"you can't catch what you can't see"
well i caught you honey,
like the clap sugar.
what do you think of that?
#18
i didnt like them when they were called death from above. i dont like them now that theyre death from above 1979.

theyre pretty damn big though.
my name is matt. you can call me that if you like.
#19
I really don't like them very much at all.

You got to hand it to the guy for having a nice scarf though.
I want that scarf.

^ Problably because there's no solid definition of indie. Like, well, any genre of music, ever.

Yeah. Define rock and roll or jazz. It's too ambiguous to put down in a simple definition. It is what it is.

can't define something that doesn't exist anymore

Well, that's clearly untrue as well, unless all independent record labels have ceased to exist in the past 24 hours.

i still believe that if you're on a label, you're not independent

^ That'd just mean you're self-releasing it (or are crap). Still indie, but scoob is right.

^if you want to go that route, a label that isn't one of the top 5, doesn't make it an 'indie label' either. i wouldn't call a label such as matador or any of it's bands indie

also, those artists/minor labels that are just offshoots of a major labels are still the same thing, just a different name.

and there are a lot of good bands that still self release, example: the american dollar

Yes, if you're a self-funding label and not affiliated with the majors (I think theres four now) then you're an indie label. It doesn't matter what style of music you're releasing, it could be hip hop, it could be electronica, it doesn't matter, you're still signed to an indie label making you an indie band.
Often the major labels do buy out/into the indie labels so that they can get their talent rather than the majors forming new labels.

i don't believe that if they're not in the big four, they're still not major. they give and take as much from the artist.

but it seems that's my problem

Well that's the way it works. It basically means they're independent of those labels. The indie label may be big on its own, but compare it to the size, money and influence that the majors have on the music, the market and advertising it really does make sense.

i always go with the thought that an 'indie band' is so because of the band being independet, not because the label doesn't make as much money as BMG or sony. i'm full aware of what you are saying. i know what the term means now, but i believe it's worng. again, my problem.

that came out more mean than i wanted, i'll drop it now.

they broke up? dam shame there made good alternative music, by the way i typed them into a google image search and they look like there spanish or something,

does any one know what nationality they are?
