I can't really think of any new blues artists except for John Mayer and he completely sucks. Bluesmen that are still alive and may have released albums recently are Eric Clapton, (Infact I know he released one last year) John Mayall, Bo Diddley, J.J. Cale, (Pretty sure he released one last year) B.B. King, Jeff Beck and Pat Travers. (He released one ths year or last year. His music is closer to rock than blues, but still heavily influenced by blues)

The Mystic Mile album is good as well.

And I agree about John Mayer too. His trio debut CD was anything too special, but if you can find the bootlegs online of when he peformed a bunch of blues standards live in NYC.... WOW

what qualifies as 'modern blues'? i mean is it modern historically such as within the last year or do you mean blues reflecting modern society (christ that sounds soooo pretentious, i can't believe i am saying this).

I've been imitated so well I've heard people copy my mistakes.

The Black Keys are obviously blues influenced but they are very close to rock... so i'm not sure if it's what you're looking for.
