Black Sabbath is one of my favorite bands, saw em at ozzfest this year and it made my day. They didnt beat iron maiden, but who does? my favorite albums by sabbath would have to be self titled and sabbath bloody sabbath, master of reality next, paranoid then vol.4. Techinical ecstacy is good to listen to when im depressed. Never say die is probably my least favorite. Dio is good, but ozzy will always be the best sabbath singer.

Man, i saw this thread and HAD to post.

Favourite CD is Master of Reality, awesome opening track "Sweet Leaf", beautiful instrumental "Orchid" and Children Of The Grave kciks taco. My favourite part it the drums

I have Self-titled, Paranoid (Both tied for second favourite) and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Its been said before, and ills ay it again they are THE godfathers of metal, no matter how many people say Zeppelin just because they came first. They're all genuises (Except for Bill he's just plain good) and inspire everyone in any genre of music, from metal to pop-rock-ish crap. (I saw the drummer from Mobile wearing a Master Of Reality Tshirt in a video). 4th favourite band.

And are Heaven and Hell and Volume 4 good cds? I was hesitant to buy them for whatever reason...

Heaven and Hell is a very solid album, especially the title track, which happens to one of my favoirte SAbbath songs of all time

Volume 4 is a pretty good album, its got some real cool songs in it like Supernaut, Cornucopia, and many others but it aint as good as the first three albums, but still worth getting.

As for Heaven and Hell, well I have'nt listened to that album that much because its sabbath with Dio which I am not really fan of...

their best album is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Ozzy is way better than Dio.

What other albums do you have? I got two Megadeth ones (12" and 7"), Paranoid and The Wall.

Sorry I didn't get back to you right away. Well, I recently went to a flea market and picked up Ride the Lightning from Metallica on Vinyl. Ummm and I also have Zeppelin IV, that's really all the vinyl I have oh yeah I have Number of the Beast but it's technically my cousin's. He went away on business and asked me to watch some of his ****. He gave me his Iommi Gibson SG(never play it -- don't have enough balls to), couple rifles and stuff and the album in a glass frame.

I know this isn't really about sabbath but have you guys seen that south park episode with Dio on it, it made me laugh. By the way, who do you think is a better singer dio or ozzy. I have to say dio. I do like ozzy's stuff in sabbath and solo but I think he just has a crap voice and he's a sellout too and I hate Sharon stupid Bitch

Dio is an awesome singer but as everyone says..... Ozzy is Black Sabbath. I rekon Dio is a better singer aswell...... Listen too some of his solo stuff it rocks..... He does Aerosmiths Dream On with Yngwie, its awesome, also listen to Rainbow's "stargazer" both are prrof of Dio been an awesome singer.

My fave Sabbath song however would have to be "under the sun" off the "Vol 4" album... That album is soo under-rated, its soo raw and awesome

Yeah, Vol.4 is a raw album and Under The Sun is a kickass song.

And, on the subject of vinyl, has anyone got the original recording of the Paris peformance from 1970. I saw it in a store (second hand) and was wondering if this a hard to come by record.

ON the subject of Dio: When listening to Sabbath with Dio singing its much more rewarding if you don't listen to it as though it were Sabbath and just a different band. Because even the music on the album doesn't sound as evil as they did with Ozzy.

also I second Under the Sun being kick ass. But Changes sucks soooo much balls I'm sorry but Sabbath + Piano Ballad =
Ride the dragon toward the crimson eye...

I love Sabbath. Iommi is a huge influence on my style sound wise. Fav album; that is tough. I love Paranoid because it was my first Sabbath record and my fav tune is Fairies wear boots. Love the intro part to that song; awesome riffige. I also like Mastery of reality and into the void. But I also think that the Dio years are underrated. He is a great vocalist and the songs written on Heaven and Hell adn Mob rules are top notch. Love neon nights, falling off the edge of the world especially.

On the subject of Ozzy and Dio, Dio was much better in every respect yet Ozzy was mmore of a match for Sabbath, just like Mick Jaggar is a great match for the stones.

First off in terms of plain vocals Dio is much better. He is not an opera singer but has an emormous amount of range. He can do anything you ask; heavy metal, straigth up rock, beautiful ballads. Ozzy's voice is not all that great but it is unique. YOu will never hear another vocalist like him and that is what I quess is some of his appeal.

Song writing; Dio wins hands down. While in Sabbath Ozzy never wrote anything, no music or lyrics. He has admitted that all he did was come in a lay down vocal tracks. Dio on the other hand has written some really great lyrics, although some of his stuff is kinda silly.

But in the end part of the lack of success of the post Ozzy Sabbath was the link between Ozzy's voice and music and how this related to the fans. Its like the Who, without Daultry, Stones without Jaggar, or U2 without Bono. It just wouldn't be the same.

An SG signed by Iommi, or one that he played, or both? How do you hang them, cause i think the way i'm doing it is damaging the sleeve, i use one of those black paperclip deals and a nail in the wall.

I've been pissed lately because I can't find a copy of Master of Reality anywhere. Children of the Grave is such a kickass song.

And that is a nice SG, although Geezer Butler gets mroe respect from me than Iommi does, me being a bassist and all.

Yeah man, I love Gezzer, my favourite bassist ever. Love his tone, and how he attacks the strings

Does anyone know the bass Geezer is using on this photo?http://www.black-sabbath.com/gallery/011373/BlackSabbath19720002 it is from the Master Of Reality tour, I love the bass on that record!

Love the Iommi SG model. It looks awesome but the SG neck is a little too wide for my liking. I would use one purely for riffing. They apparently have excellent tone and sustain and give a tight sound for power chords. Beautiful guitar.

On the Nativity in Black tribute album, some lyrics are added to Type O Negative's version of the song Black Sabbath. Anyone know what they are?

Edit - Nevermind, found 'em.

Edit 2 - No, these are the lyrics to their cover with redone lyrics. My question still stands.

Their first 5 studio albums are by far the best

I remeber listening to them when i was just a toddler in my dad's house, the most striking memory i have is the album cover of sabbath Bloody sabbath, i love it, it should win awards just for that, let alone the music!

Since i can't choose between the contents of the albums, i'm gunna have to go on sentimental value and go for Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Besides it has Killing Yourself to Live, Spiral Architect and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath on it!

favorite album would probably be Past Lives, I just like it more than the studio versions of the songs (for the most part).

I seen a Black Sabbath thread in the Classic Rock forum. :/

Anyway, has anyone heard Dio, Halford, and Malmsteen's cover of "Mr. Crowley"?

I thought Dio was brilliant, and sung the song better than Ozzy IMO. Though Malsteen's wanking disappointed me as he tried to add his own touch to Rhoades' solo.

Yeah, my dad has a couple of their records which is mad. The only record that comes to mind that i remember he has is "Paranoid" and when i started learning guitar, my dad forced me to learn "Iron man" for him (which was fine by me Iron man > then all your souls combined!!!)
