it's pretty much impossible for a classic rocker to ONLY like classic rock music so what 10 modern rock albums do classic rockers think are essential or just flat out like?

and this has to be in the classic rock forum because i need the opinions of classic rockers and i don't think many of you go to the modern rock forum.

You haven't been here very long have you?

But anyway,

1. Sam Roberts - We Were Born In A Flame (Soulful "beatle-esque" modern rock)
2. Oasis - The Masterplan (a mix of clean and the nitty gritty)
3. Electric Six - Senor Smoke (dance/disco/rock)
4. Queens Of The Stone Age - Rated R (Stoner Rock)
5. Radiohead - The Bends (OK Computer purists will doubt, but honestly, "The Bends" is far more inviting)
6. Our Lady Peace - Spiritual Machines (Just great music)
7. The Darkness - One Way Ticket To Hell And Back (More refined then "Permission To Land", and generally a lot better IMO)
8. The Dandy Warhols - Thirteen Tales From An Urban Bohemia (No describing this)
9. The White Stripes - Elephant ("Get Behind Me Satan" is a step down from this IMO, and Elephant is generally more inviting)
10. Radiohead - Hail To The Thief (More inviting than "Kid A" and "Amnesiac", and one should buy those after this one)

Gotta have....

Muse - any one of 3
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream AND Mellon Collie
Chilis - Blood Sugar for older days, Californication for newer styled stuff (any older I'd say might be too different for a regular classic rock listener)
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Tool - Pick 2 of their albums
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
some Grunge album, I don't care what I don't listen to it.

Those are in my veiw major bands of this era. If you're British you probably have to get something by Oasis and Blur, possibly Stone Roses...hard to pick just 10 bands, let alone albums

EDIT: something Radiohead

EDIT2: Fuck, get something Porcupine Tree, In Abstentia or Lightbulb Son I'd say.
It's not the fear of what's beyond
It's just that I might not respond

In no order:

Gastr Del Sol - Camofleur (prog-rock/ambient)
Mr. Bungle - California (experimental)
Radiohead - OK Computer
Secret Chiefs 3 - Book Of Horizons (experimental)
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun (ambient)
Acid Mothers Temple - Univers Zen Ou De Zero A Zero (psychedelic)
The Books - Lost And Safe (ambient/psychedelic)
Oysterhead - The Grand Pecking Order (prog-rock/funk)
Bela Fleck And The Flecktones - Outbound (smooth jazz)
Melt Banana - Cell-Scape (noise-rock)

Wouldn't consider some of them essential, just some modern rock albums that I enjoy.

Man, am I the only one that likes Wilco around here? Here's my ten:
Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Wilco: A Ghost is Born
RHCP: Blood Sugar Sex Magik
RHCP: Californication (How has no one said this yet?)
Nirvana: Nevermind
Jet: Get Born
Coldplay: A Rush of Blood to the Head
Pearl Jam: Ten
U2: How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
U2: All That You Can't Leave Behind

I know that technically, U2 is a classic rock band and they shouldn't count, but these were both released in the last 5 years and they are very modern sound records so I'm going to keep them there.
Why should I care

3)The Darkness-One Way Ticket...

I would never recommend that album to anyone.

Well, here's my list:
1/. Radiohead - OK Computer
2/. Beck - Odelay (possibly Sea Change)
3/. The Manic Street Preachers -Everything Must Go
4/. Sigur Ros - Ágætis Byrjun (or Takk)
5/. Jeff Buckley - Grace
6/. The Arcade Fire - Funeral
7/. Godspeed You Black Emperor! - Lift your Skinny Fists like Antennas to heaven
8/. The Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
9/. Television - Marquee Moon (I realise it was realeased in 1977 but I still want it on the list )
10/. The Smiths - The Queen is Dead

Yeah, not really modern rock but I guarentee you'll like them

it kind of depends on the CR you like because it's such a vast genre.

Like floyd? You MUST hear radiohead.
Like U2? Coldplay
Like Zeppelin? White Stripes
Beach Boys? Weezer
Beatles? Oasis
James Brown? RHCP
The Who? maybe soundgarden
Velvet Underground? Strokes
The Clash? The Libertines
Bowie or Queen? Smashing Pumpkins

etc. not necessarily similar sounding, but you can hear influences in the modern bands.

Most of my choices are named. I agree with Derek Trucks Band, and Pearl Jam's "Ten" in particular.

I would also recommend getting something by Dinosaur Jr, I guess "Ear Bleeding Country" (the best of cd) couldn't hurt. There's a big Neil Young influence in this band.

I like the idea in the post above mine: putting modern rock bands with similar classic rock bands. Soundgarden has always seemed a bit like Led Zep to me.
