Howdy, Just started listening to this band, Refused, they've broke up now but there final album "The Shape Of Punk To Come" just blew me away, absolutely fu'cking great, They were one of the first bands to combine the angry screaming that we hear far to much of today in some emo bands etc.

Your thoughts?

Only heard 1 song by them and that was in the "pwned" video. It had a cool riff.

yes, the refused do rock. though i think emo stole more from at the drive in.
it was nice to see a balls out punk band that proved that punk rock does not require you to be a talentless musician.

I love how the albums goes beyond what "normal " punk says you should keep to, From the jazz breakdowns to the industrial synth interludes, this album is absolutely ****ing brilliant, words can't describe.

I never really liked punk before this but if any of it is one tenth as good as this Im a fan.

They were NOT first and it's NOT angry screaming.

"Except, emo was around way before At The Drive In"

yeah. i'm pretty sure it was around before the refused, too.
point is, a lot of the emo (at least what i've heard) that has come out in the last few years (since it started becoming so inexplicably popular) has very obviously been derived from ideas put forth by at the drive in. so yeah, emo was there, but it sounded pretty ****ing different than it does now.
let me put it this way, i've heard a few bands that ripped off atdi. i can't think of anyone who has sounded much like the refused.

how can you say EMO isnt popular? seriously just listen to the radio for 1 hour and more than likely 85% of the bands will be EMO and this shouldn't be in the hardcore forum cuz they aren't hardcore

You think the refused aren't hardcore, and you also think 85% of the radio is emo.

Refused aren't doing it for me.
That first track is "OKAY" at best.

The vocals and changes don't do it for me, although I can see where some people would like it.

first, i would liek to start off with this: refused = <3333333333333333

second, its REFUSED not "the refused"

thirdly, refused ARE hardcore. the person who said they werent is probablly just some "hXc" scene kid.
