Good political music is an oxymoron.

It's ridiculous that guys like Green Day, Sex Pistols etc. try to make songs about politics, when they have no knowledge whatsoever.

I don't see George W. Bush telling Yngwie how to play Eb Harmonic Minor Scale, do I?

Don't be an idiot.

Yes, Green Day are idiots and annoying. I'd disagree about the Sex Pistols though - they weren't trying to be political, they were being nihilist (AND WE DON'T CARE!!!...)

There is a ****-load of good, intelligent political music. Come on, BOB DYLAN? Download Chimes of Freedom or With God On Our Side and tell me he doesn't know what he's talking about.

The Clash are awesome as well.

If musicians only made songs about things they were well informed about there would be far fewer songs out there.

I agree that there's a whole lotta crappy music based on politics *coughanti-flagcough* but every now and again a good band or two or three shows up. Just gotta look.

Almost every song on any Punk-O-Rama album.
And naturally Bad Religion for that matter.
Megadeth have written several politically based tracks/albums. Metallica touch upon it now and then. As do a lot of thrash bands i.e. Anthrax, Exodus e.t.c. they've all made politically based songs.
And about the Anti-Flag comment, hahaha, they're not bad, but they just try too hard to be punk. But yeah, a lot of punk music. Just listen to every band on Epitaph or Fat Wreck.

State Radio. A very intelligent, political band, soundwise a mix of Rage Against the Machine, Dispatch, and Bob Marley.

They have a kickass live show.

Tool is one of my favorite political bands, especially on Aenima.

Forget Anti-Flag and NOFX, they're a bunch of know-nothing dipsh*ts with fauxhawks. I don't see them clamouring to get on Hardball or Crossfire to stand up for their views.
.

Might as well label Slayer and At The Gates as "metalcore" while you're at it...
