Matons are nice, and they aint les paul copies... great for hard rock, crap for metal unless you play rythm, and no shredding, good for hard rock solos

I just mean it is a les paul style, if not a copy. It is for led zeppelin, clapton, and rage against the machine.

Look into Godin, Billy Hyde stocks em is you're in Aus. Much bettter than Maton for a LP style guitar.

If you wanna get something that beats a Gibby, for less price too, look into Belman.

Yeah they seem pretty good, I will definitely have to go back there to check them out properly, any other suggestions on les pauls or SG between epiphone and gibson price range that are better than an epiphone?

I haven't seen an epiphone elitist in australia, what about cole clark, I am interested in one of the mistress cole clarks, anyone know anything about them?

I rekkon cole clark's are horrible, but belmans are really nice if you can get your hands on one.

What's wrong with the cole clarks? The harmony central reviews of "the mistress" is pretty high, and josh homme and ben harper apparently have used/use them for recording and shows

I just dont like the feel, you might though. My mate had a custom mistress made for him and that felt way better, it didnt slide off while i was sitting down, might be coz the model i played was crap, it wos the cheapest you can get anyway, but yeah, a belman would be a way better investment, but you gotta try every guitar.

I'm not so worried about the shape, the only guitars I actually like the look of are the SGs. I like the mistress shape better than a strat, but I don't really care about the look, I will try one out tomorrow and see if it feels and sounds right. It is used and about 1/3 of retail so I'm willing to overlook aesthetics to save $1300
