Meh, I usually just buy them off the local shaman, unless I'm in the wilderness, where I rely on raw meat to raise my HP.

Yeah, open.If I try picking closed, I don't seem to be as accurate with my single string attack. And, I catch my self anchoring with my pinky sometimes as well. But only on the first 3 strings while soloing.

how the hell can you play with your hand closed anyway?
If you must play something vary fast then your hand must be 100% relaxed...

btw....open

Open for picking, closed for strumming, and closed for when I play holding my whammy bar.

A very loose fist.
He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt.
He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice.

I guess something in between.
I voted closed though...and my hand is very relaxed when playing even though it is closed!
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I hold my pick with three fingers instead of 2 (hetfield and others-style)
#21
Closed since I learnt to palm mute, but from watching clapton play a lot I am wondering if having your pick hand pinky on the scratchplate is something I should be doing? I have never done it and not had a problem with alternate picking without it, but then again I don't rock the guitar around a lot so I'm not sure if that would affect my ability to pick accurately without anchoring the pick hand.

Open. My pinky, ring, and middle finger kind of stick straight out, and my index and thumb the pick. Sometimes I rest my hand behind the bridge, and it's easier to palm mute.

I can't play good when my hand is closed.

Today I noticed, I vary in open\closed...closed is kind of fun, if you can get control over it
#36
Open - holding it between thumb and middle finger. I tend to use my fingers a lot even when holding a pick and switch between a lot during phrases. I might fingerpick with my first and third fingers then strum with my little finger, for example.

Me too.
what happened to the proposed Kirk Hammett flamenco album?

His acoustic didn't sound good with wah pedal, I suppose.
