Hey,

Basically i'm looking for a guitar i can use for my (Melodic) metal band (Nightwish-esque, but very shreddy) as my Les Paul is beggining to get tedious to play higher up the neck....

I have a budget of US$1500 and these are some things i definately want:

24 (or more) frets
Floyd Rose Tremolo
Very fast neck
(preferably) Matted neck

Ok, and the rest is left up to your imagination or opinion.

Also, im definately keen on getting it second hand so you can suggest guitars which i would be able to get for under $1500 SECOND HAND.

Lastly, ive been looking at the Caparison Horus Deep Blue and J Frog Glock 24; any opinions of these?

Thanks

USD? But you're in london...

Anyway, this sounds like a job for an ESP Horizon to me. They retail around $1400, and some models have OFRs. 24 frets, set neck, EMG pickups... great guitar. The neck is lacquered, though, I believe...

Maybe you'd like a V-style? The Dave Mustaine V's are quite nice, but no trems. Alexi Laiho V's are okay, but they've got a crappy pickup installed. If you can save a tiny bit more, the ESP SV-Standard goes for 1700 euros, and it's my personal dream guitar...

I'd suggest looking some ESP guitars like LTD Deluxe series and Ibanez RG's. From RG's I'd probably suggest the RG1570.

Laiho's HZ-H4 is amazing. Very good tone IMO.

Yeah, SV Standard is a dream guitar. I'm saving up for it right now...

Higher end Ibanez RG's are famous for the qualities you mentioned: Wizard necks are super fast, and a few Ibanez' have this matte finish on the neck which feels nice and your hand won't stick to it. The tremolo is not a licenced floyd rose, but is an Ibanez Edge, which is just as good, and doesn't stick out of the body like a mutating kidney. Also, most RG's have 24 frets.

Yeah, im not too keen on Ibanezs though, i think they sound too thin and are not really solid sounding...

Preferably something that sounds fat... PRS-esque...if thats possible with my budget haha.

Neil Zaza on I'm Alright i think has the ideal sound...

Anyone have any more suggestions? And by the way, i have a Marshall DSL 401...

with 1500 there a chance of finding a used or a new Jackson Soloist also.
I traded in my Real Books for Robbins and Cotran Pathology Textbooks

Ibanez do sound fat, believe it or not. Perharps not as fat as a PRS...they sound so fat I can't imagine the possibility of playing a powerchord on one...
Then go with Danno's advice. The Mustaine V is really cool: a guy at my school has one. I haven't played it myself, but I've seen him play it and it sounds very professional.

Jackson USA soloist or Ibanez RG1570 or higher for teh quality FLoyd and upper access you want without paying an arm and a leg for a custom brand. The RG1570 is a good deal at $750 with Prestige Wizard neck.
