Other than the fact it should be "which pedal" all I've got to say is that you need a distrtion pedal with a mid control (unless your amp has one) and that, if at all possible, you should try them out before you buy one.

Boss metal zone is a really good starting point. Massive control over mid's and a big fat distortion. It'll get you in the ball park.

Dont forget that the amp you use will play a massive part in the end sound so if your gonna try a pedal, try it through your amp or at least the same model. You might just get home thinking you found a sound you love, playing through a jcm 800 combo at the store, but you'll probably be dissapointed when pluggin it into your own amp.
