You should be alright with the Les Paul, but like the other guy said, I'd replace the pickups with some EMG's.

It would be good, not that much for metalcore, but good tone for anything else(blues, rock, low-gain rock, ect.)

if you like the look of LP's and like the sound of ibanez then go for an esp you cant go wrong with it.
