I've been playing for about 2 years self taught, I've gotten pretty good I guess, but my question regards my hand position. When playing, should you always keep your hand in a perpendicular "boxed" position? I do when playing rythms and stuff but when I solo I almost always hook my thumb and slant my fingers to the left; I guess I do it because I can hit notes harder that way, and I have more control as well. I've heard from a few people however that you should always keep your hand in boxed form no matter what, even when soloing. This would take a lot of getting used to, but I could probably do it. It's just that when I do legato exercises (trilling primarily), if I box my hand, I don't get as loud and clean of a sound. Can anyone help? Any comments are appreciated.
who the hell cares what everyone else says, if it works then do it
