i need to tune half a step up for a song i wanna learn.

how can i do this with a tuner?

ummm e will be e sharp or the next note up flat
same thing for all of em
then check em by sdoin the 5th fret compared to the open string

I would just use a capo.

because one half step up from E is F.....E is open and F is first fret, which is a half step

I really wouldn't recommend tuning your guitar up, it could make the neck bow and/or get fucked up. I think you should just get a capo and put it on the 1st fret, or just play the tune a 1/2 step down in standard.

Use the tuning thread in the guitar and bass basics forum.

1) Play teh 6th fret Low E String and the A String open. REtune the A string to match the 6th fret Low E String.

2) Tune to standard around the A string
