I'm seeing Katatonia tonight in the 'Scum' in Katwijk (The Netherlands). I haven't heard any song by 'm. They're labeled gothic/doom, if I'm correct? What is your opinion about 'm?

I think they are absolutely awesome. You are going to have an awesome time tonight. If it's songs you want, download Soil's Song, Rusted, pretty much anything of The Great Cold Distance is good.

I saw them live for their Viva Emptiness tour and it was great. Completely mesmorizing. I haven't heard fully the new album, but they'll play some old stuff that is very good anyway. I would call their older stuff doom and the new stuff more doom/rock-pop or something. But I'm very unexperienced with doom, so big doom fans may disagree.

Amazing band. I love it all, though The Great Cold Distance is a bit different from everything else.

I'm really loving We Must Burn You right now.

I really like them, some people are put off by their various sounds changes but not I.

Awesome band. I saw them just a few weeks ago in the Willem 2 in Den Bosch and they were great. I remember that they played the following songs; Wealth, My twin, Sleeper, Ghost of the sun, Criminals, Tonight's music, I am nothing, Evidence, Sweet nurse, Teargas and deadhouse. They played some more songs from their new album but I don't remember which ones.

The majority of the songs are from their latest albums (Tonight's decision, Viva emptiness, The great cold distance ). I thought they played very well, very intense.
They're still playing with Novembre tonight aren't they? Anyway, have fun tonight.

i have dance of december souls remastered from black lodge in digipak... and it sounds decent. didnt like the brave murder day very much.

i heard one song off every album of the new katatonia and only liked deadhouse off the third album, are the other songs on that album as catchy?

I love 'em, but I didn't like Viva Empiness that much, and I have yet to check out their new album.

I absolutely LOVE viva emptiness.

Then again I pretty mcuh can't turn my nose up at Katatonia in general. GREAT ****in band.

I really liked the opening band Novembre, sounded like later Paradise Lost. Katatonia dissapointed me. I liked the songs and the musicianship but the performance wasn't very well. I'll think I'll buy an album of both bands within a few months.

Cool.

New album is pretty damn good, even though they are leaning towards a more depressing rock vibe. However, great music.

I can't stand Jonah's voice on the older stuff. I think he sounds a whole lot better on the new album, although I probably won't purchase it either.
#15
I've never really listened to Katatonia, although I do know that Mikael Akerfeldt used to do vocals for them.

Personally I think their newer stuff is better. I think their most recent album, The Great Cold Distance, is their best to date. Although, I love pretty much everything they've done. It's all good.
#25
They're absolutely fantastic. Perfect mix of doom and goth.

But their new stuff sucks.

I've heard two Katatonia songs, Murder and At Last, which I like a lot. I covered At Last for a performance at college.

I thought the Great Cold Distance was horrible. All of the songs sound almost exactly the same...

They're all depressing, which is a bonus for me, but other than that nothing really stands out...

Wow, seems back in May alot of people liked 'the Great Cold Distance', now most people dislike it.

Viva Emptiness FTW
#29
Very boring band (for my taste) .
I have Last Fair Deal Gone Down and Viva Emptyness. pure boredom.
I put a dollar in a change machine. Nothing changed.
#30
my original post was based on first listen. after a few more plays, i only really like two/three songs on the great cold distance. the chorus of 'july' is awesome and i also really like 'in the white.' other than that, the album isn't really too replayable.
#31
I dont know, Viva emptiness and Tonights decision are probably better then TGCD, but i havent heard the whole album yet. . .

Evidence is probably the best song out of their new stuff, vocal landmark.

Katatonia, Moonspell, & Daylight Dies Tour.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niAkrw6F-7A

lol.

A few weeks ago they hit a venue near me and i went. Daylight Dies opened and were incredible from the first note. Katatonia came on second and litterally had no stage presence. To tell the truth i started to get bored. Moonspell played last and were just crazy on stage.

/stoned

Much like opeth theyre a band that sounds good live, as well as on disc, but they have no stage presence period
#33
I liked TGCD, but I like anything before it more. Katatonia are awesome imo. I just wish I could find more of their older stuff in stores, since they seem to only have TGCD. Also, I have Last Fair Deal Gone Down (dl'ed, sorry).
#35
Katatonia is great, they were ok as a doomy band, but the new stuff is incredible. Jona's clean voice is miles ahead of his growl. The rereslease of TGCD should be awesome, its gonna be in 5.1 Dolby.
#36
Great band, I really liked TGCD. I have all their stuff on cd, been listening to BMD again lately, Brave is such an awesome song.

Jonas' growl just didn't really cut it with me back when they were doom, the only album I like from that era is BMD which has Akerfeldt on vox anyway

I just headed over to their website and found a song from DoDS and BMD. "Without God" vocals were alright, but "Murder" was awesome with Akerfeldt's growls. This is only from the first listen though, so I might change my mind.

Plus, it's good to see more fans of TGCD.
