Haha! me either.

Jackson, ESP, Ibanez. I've always been a fan of Jackson. But they went downhill, not sure how good they are since fender bought them out?
#5
are you guys morons?

ever heard of Kirk Hammett and Yngwie Malmsteen they are the two biggest shredders in history
#6
Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Yngwie Malmsteen, and shred or not, Jimi Hendrix deserve to be here too. They all use strats.

Honestly I just can't see someone shredding with a tele. I'm sure it's been done by someone sometime, but it just doesn't seem natural, lol.

As for the strat, I'm sure you could mod it to suit the sound you want...

Guess I'm a moron, because 1) I don't consider Malmsteen a "Shredder" (which was what the OP was asking) and 2) I've been to 5 Metallica concerts and never seen Hammett play single coil, Fender Strat. I'm sure he has them and plays them, but they are not "shredder" guitars.

I gotta go do moron stuff now, later.
#9
Andy Timmons used to use Strats, but now he's gone over to Ibanez. He still uses single coils by the looks of things, though they could be stacked 'buckers. You can shred on a Strat, though it helps to refret it with larger frets and put hotter pickups in it. Of course, if you're gonna do that you might as well start with a different guitar.
#10
Just go to a guitar store and pick up the guitar you're thinking about. If it plays well for you then why worry if its a "shred" guitar or not? you can upgrade pickups too.

Also, Vai has also used Strat in the past (and still uses one every so often)
http://vai.com/Machines/guitarpages/guitar068.html
http://vai.com/Machines/guitarpages/guitar066.html (a Charvel but close enough)

I think he's been using one a bit on the recent Zappa plays Zappa tour thing too

Just to answer ur question, Kirk Hammet have ESP made out a telecaster for him, the ESP Wavecaster.

And just for the record, he only used this once, in the "Cunning Stunts" playing Am I Evil. He also have a Fernandes Stratocaster which he used it in a MOP gig, and Cliff' Em All, Creeping Death, and a Fender Stratocaster Black Album gig, and Live ****: San Diego, The Unforgiven

IMO, there is no such thing as "shred" guitars. You play whatever the hell you feel most comfortable to you.

I stand corrected. It's very rare that Strats are used for shred.... after playing one, I realize why.

That's a very nice ESP btw, I see it's totally moded and looks cool as hell!
#14
Also like to add... I have a Yamaha RGX that is a wicked guitar for Shred... I like it better than my LTD neck thru.

He uses them to record the albums. He modded them so they have an EMG 81 in the bridge with two EMG SAs(single coil emgs) in the neck and middle.

Since he is endorsed by ESP they don't like him to play his Fenders on stage anymore.

I dont consider Kirk Hammett a shredder, but whoever said that Yngwie isnt a shredder must have forgot what a shredder is.

Can't compare the both to shred
sure some guitarist shred with tele's and strats... but most Ibanez models are made for shredding they have a strat style body for lightness (alder wood), and lead style... this is why most ibanez's have 24 fret while most fenders have 21...
Later in the evenin, as you lie awake in bed, hear the echoes of the amplifiers ringin' in your head, smoke the days last cigarette rememberin' what she said...

Ok seriously, this Kirk Hammet thing have to stop, period. He did use a fender strat and custom tele made by esp. if you dont believe me go to this site http://www.encycmet.com/equipment/khiseq.shtml. He's not a shred artist but he can shred. Nothing special, just wah-wankery and solo for Metallica.
