On my left hand, third finger (beside my pinky) I have literally no independance. I can descend a scale at very good speeds but when ascending, even at extremely slow speeds, I mess up because of that finger. It seems to only happen when ascending or when first using my pinky.
I've been practicing finger independance a strength building excercises for months now at about an hour a day (not including other practice) but it hasn't helped in the slightest.
Is there anything I can do? Has this ever happened to anybody else?

One thing I did was play songs that I knew well that used my index and middle finger (like Come As You Are) but practice them using your third and pinky finger. If you don't have to think about what you're playing, you can focus on getting those fingers stronger. It'll be hard at first because you know you can play it better but patience is the key.

try just playing super super super slow and making sure everything is relaxed before you move on to your next note. eventually you should be able to play it without tension. if eventually you still cant do it get a guitar teacher and work on it with them.
