sorry for the noob question but what is the diffrence between a distortion pedal and a overdrive pedal???

Overdrive: think the AC/DC sound
Distortion: think the Metallica sound


that said, an overdrive pedal can also be used to push a tube amp into more distortion while a distortion pedal is more of a self contained thing (though if you have the gain rather low they can sound rather overdrivey)

Overdrive is just a pushed signal (JCM) And distortion is a clipped signal (Roland)

overdrive - boost your sounds, good for leads( Boss DS-1)
distortion - uumm distorts your sounds? for rhythm (Boss MT-2)
