I recently got my first tube amp (Randall RG50TC) and am amazed with the sound at lower volumes, I love it, but whenever I turn the volume up, the distortion seems to kinda drop. At low volumes I can play some Slayer, Cradle Of Filth, Megadeth riffs but when I turn the master volume past around 5 I seem to get less distortion.

Aren't tube amps supposed to sound better at high volumes? Am I not EQ'ing it right? Is this common?

It depends on which volume your boosting. If you boost the preamp(channel) volume it tends to be darker and lose a bit distrotion. IF you boost the Master/power amp it saturates more getting a gainer sound and a brighter one.

Well earlier I had gain full and level around 3-4 (I think) on the OD channel with the master volume around 7 and I was noticing there was a drop in the distortion compared to when the master volume was around 3-4
