I felt like listening to "Frances The Mute" today for no reason.

The album, or the song? Both great, anyhow.

When i saw em w/ RHCP some ****ers threw a condum full of piss at em so they said **** it and left the stage. Omar threw his guitar at his amp. He was pretty pissed. You can find it on youtube just type in endfest and you will find a few mars volta vids. Pisses me off how some people have no respect for concept music.

That is pretty low. Even if you hate a band you should at least let them play the music that they like to.

^ya i know
I have amputechture and love it. I dont see how people think its bad. THe illness of the verse riff of the day of the bahomets... the illness of amputechture, the chorus of viscera eyes... Just sweet anybody else who likes their continuing change in music rather then just flaming it and calling it shit?

I absolutely love Amputechture. I understand how people can be upset about it, though. It does have a whole different feel than Deloused and Frances, but I think the direction they went on it was very great.

I saw them in berkley, CA 2 years ago....one of the greatest shows ive ever seen, They played for what seemed like forever!!

And Asilos Magdalena is one of the dopest songs on the new album.........Fun song to play!!!!

rofl amputechture slays the shit out of the first two. Tetragramation is pure genius

You'll get different answers giving different albums.

Personally I say either Scab Dates or Frances the Mute. Both genius. Cicatriz on Scab Dates is particularly awe inspiring, whilst FTM has many different style and more structured songs.

Its up to you man, but listen with an open mind - They are truly great.

Thanks man, I'll out their cd tomorrow hopefully. I'm listening to them on youtube right now, incredible. And Tool has taught me to listen with an open mind, which usually drives me to hate alot of music.

I'd have to agree with getting Frances The Mute.

but their catchiest is De-loused In The Comatorium
but my favorite is Amputechture...

So its a tough call.

The best album is Frances the Mute. The most accessible but at the same time, eye opening, provactive, and inspiring is De-loused in the Comatorium. Amputechture is great too.

The only flaw I thought for them was in Frances the Mute; the layered textures and whirring, buzzing and bells went on a little too long for my liking - e.g. on The Widow.

I can play Televators. Very nice and simple.

EDIT: That is, simple for The Mars Volta. Some of the chord structures are a little unusual. It's still not too taxing though.
Feel free to ignore my ranting.

I know De-Loused from begining to end on bass, a little on keyboard, and just a bit on guitar. I'm working on transcribing the bass solo on Day of the Baphomets. I never really wanted to learn any of frances, but there are a few B-sides I've thought about learning.
Its better to regret the things you did, rather than the things you didnt do.

^dude that must be as hard as shit to get the bass solo down. Im not a bassist or anything but that seems pretty hard.

Alright, in the quest to widen my musical base I have decided to check out the Mars Volta. What album should I check out?

I saw them in Philly when they opened for RHCP. They were pretty damn good, although from the upper level of seats (damn ticketmaster lady ****ed up my ticket and I didn't realize is until I got to the concert) their singer looked like a woman.

Ok. I know Flea is the bassist for all of Deloused and Frusciante plays in one song on that album. But do these guys play in any of the Mars Volta's other albums?

John plays the rhythm guitar in Amputechture.

He also plays on L'Via L'Viaquez on Frances The Mute (also my favourite song by them).

Im pretty sure he played all the lead guitar on Amputechture too, because Omar was too busy trying to direct everyone else so he wanted John to do it. But im not sure. Ill check later...

Nope, Omar did most of the guitar. Fruciante just did rhythm.
