I'm kind of stuck with a few bands out nowadays that i like per se Horse the band, QOTSA, and mostly covers of old bands. I think i was born in the wrong decade, with my intense love of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and the like. Back on topic, anyone know of any good bands out now that aren't just covers/ tributes?

Lmfao, this is the best thread ever, aside from the fact that it involves a girl being harpooned through a tent.

There are some really good ones I've found. The Trews, The Elms, The Breakers and The Sheepdogs are four bands that combine classic rock with some more modern sounds. All of them have myspace profiles that you can check out, and the first 3 have full CD's out.

Dredg is kickazz. Also Seether IMHO. Alter Bridge is okay. Some of H.I.M. The Vines. I like Yellowcard, but theyre not a fantastic band. I'm saying if you really wanna get into a good band that isnt spammed anywhere... Dredg.

Have tried to pick a few bands from different areas of the "rock umbrella" for you...

Dozer - www.dozermusic.com

One of my favourite bands of the moment, think Kyuss, Motorhead, Sabbath, AIC...all the good ****! Great live band.

Clutch - www.pro-rock.com

Clutch have the best riffs since ratm, but with the blues sensibility of Led Zep - if there was any justice left in the music world (which there isn't) they'd be one of the biggest bands on the planet just now. Superb live band, seen them 4 times.

The Hellacopters - www.hellacopters.com

Hellacopters are a "recycled rock" band, all original material though. Started off as a punk/rock band back in 1995 but now sound kind of like mid period Thin Lizzy, with bits of early AC/DC, Chuck Berry and MC5 thrown in. Great live band.

Mastodon - www.mastodonrocks.com

If you like a bit of thrash metal, check them out. Heavy stuff, thrash based but with songwriting to rival Tool and far more complex guitar work. Amazing live band, seen them twice.

-Puscifer (not that they have much)

But keep in mind that this is all our opinion, you the threadstarter are gonna have to get out of classic rock mode if you're going to want to appreciate anything else. I know alot of people who are in your situation where they've overhyped bands like led zep and other typical classic rock bands so much in their own head that they can't bring themselves to listen to anything else. It's kinda sad really (and it can be a little annoying too) Ah well, try listening to some Alice In Chains and maybe that'll give you a gradual feel of different music. Start with songs like Nutshell, Down in a Hole, and I stay away.

If you want NEW music, as in not bands that started 10 years ago, go to the punk forum.

I'm not saying the mentioned bands are bad (some are), but most of them were all started about 10 years ago or longer.

Well... I recently learned about a band called Nightwish that is from Finland like H.I.M.
And LIKE H.I.M., they are kind gothic-weird-ish, but are still pretty cool. UNLIKE H.I.M., the lead singer sounds like a girls because she IS one. Anyway, you should check them out.

Keep in mind he did say he wanted to know if there are any GOOD bands out nowdays. I doubt a hardcore Zeppelin fan is even remotely interested in hearing some punk band mesh together power chords. But then again I can't speak for him so **** it.
