Today I was having some trouble with my head cutting out. I had this same problem with my Vox head which is now in the shop for repairs because of the cutting out. I now think it may be my speaker cable. So today I went to check if they were loose at practice and I noticed that one of the ends of the cable was very hot.

What caused this? Is it just a bad cable?

I went to radio shack and picked up another cable today. I just got an audio cable and it said shielded. I may be mistaken but I though guitar cable was suppose to be shielded and speaker cable wasn't. Should I get an unshielded?

you want to use unshielded speaker cable, not shielded instrument cable. The speaker cable will be higher guage wire.

This isn't instrument cable though. They had instrument cable and this wasn't it. This is Shielded Audio Cable.
