Skype is VoIP, so the quality should be almost crystal.

My friend and I do this over MSN Voice chat and Google VoIP, but we both have Line6 Toneports, so the quality is much much nicer.

The delay will be similar to that on a cell phone.

Well with a Line6 sure, but if you're using a standard usb microphone the quality is going to be fairly ****ty. But if the delay is all you're worried about, then yeah, it should be fine.

I have a Logitech USB mic and it records with excellent quality.
