Ok, im wondering if its time for an upgrade.
Currently, im using a $421.00 Les Paul Studio. Its a good guitar, but im not sure im getting the right kinds of sounds i'd like to be getting, and im assuming this is because of the stock pickups, which are nothng special. At first i thought about getting new ones, but then thought, hey i dont want to spend like $300.00 on some pickups, witch is almost as much as my guitar! anyways, (ah, feel like im rambling now) I just want to know what you all think i should do. Please note ive only been playing for about 2 1/2 years, but i am very serious about my guitar playing and only want to continue playing for as long as i can.
I want a guitar capable of nice clean tones, but can also push out mean sounds as well.
thank you
People think im insane becuase i am frowning all the time.

It all depends on the style you play. If you got a Gibson LP studio for $421, you are very lucky. The pick ups are actually quit nice in them but i advise to change the pick ups because LPs are very nice.

EDIT: OH it's epiphone!! damn!! well, I would get a new amp and guitar in that case, mainly new amp though

umm the Marshall is an MG. It's renowned for being crap. Also, it's a solid state. But, if you like, you like I guess

Yes...

I agree ditch the MG and get a Vox tube amp

^^^ thankyou. It makes all the diiference to have a tube amp.

I never said you need a massive amp, but a little tube combo wouldn't be bad and it will improve your playing. Also, i guess you aren't a beginner. 2 1/2 years. I've only been playing 1 1/2 but I have some decent equipment

I wouldn't go for buying a whole new guitar just yet. You said you though about changing the pickups, but you can do it for less money than to anticipated. I have an Epi LP Studio as well, and I switched the stock pickups for a SD Jazz in the neck an a JB in the bridge and it sounds great. I'd recommend them - they should cost a little over $150 together I think.

SH-2N Jazz

SH-4 JB

And go try out the amps before you buy them. Tube amps especially. But if you like the Line 6 amp, buy it. Just buy what you want. You'll probably change your mind after playing a few tube amps.

And nice avatar, Jenny.

Remember, if you get some expensive, great sounding pick ups on your cheapish guitar, you can always move them over to a new, 'better' guitar if/when you decide to upgrade that. So it wouldn't really be a 'waste', either way.

Well thanks for the advice, but i never said i had a real PROBLEM with my sounds, i mean im just practising to get good, so who cares if i dont have the BEST sounds. I'd like some nicer sounds, but i do like what i get from my amp. I just want a guitar/pickups with more variety of sounds. I get your guy's points about the amp, but i JUST got it~ and i love it
so plz reccomend anything but a new amp. Im a beliver that Guitars and/or pickups can make almost as big a difference as the amp. For instance my buddy has a $80 peice-of-crap and it sounded horrible on my amp. Whereas, mine sounded just fine.

If you like the soudn of an MG, you really shouldnt be upgrading ANYTHING until you get better at guitar. Once you develop skills for guitar you wil develop an ear for tone, which is annoying, for your pocket anyway.
