ive been searching websites like diyguitarist.com and stuff, and i cant find any designs or templates. Im thinking of making it so that i can turn the octave on/off with a footswitch, as well as the distortion (so i can play the octave without the distortion - the only let down with my current pedal)...

...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...thanks much guys...

The Boss me 50
have a multi effect pedal which is great!
you can have one octav upp or down.. and you can get a very dirty dist/overdirve
all you need its in it. But the only thing i complains about is the wah wah pedal..
but everything else is great!!!

ok, thats a suggestion, but im doing this out of boredom, and I think it would e interesting to MAKE a pedal, not buy one for once!

EDIT: Also, I dunno where to start on this...should I use my current pedal as a basis and adjust it?

For an octave pedal try the Green Ringer, its a pretty simple design and it gives you an octave sound (though be aware, you will NOT get a clean octave out of prettymuch any homemade octave pedal, its a half fuzzy octave up pedal).

Octave pedal theory:

as for metal distortion: search for either the Smash Drive or the Vulcan, both are designed as relatively high gain distortion pedals. I personally have made a ProCo Rat and it does it pretty good early metallica type sound.
