Well, things seemed to be getting repetitive and mundane in good ol' MT, so I thought I'd take the liberty of spicing it up.

You all know the rules: If you make a guess, and either the poster or someone reliable (check this thread for those reliable people) confirms it, then you go ahead and post a challenge. (Oh, and please remember to use CODE tags for your tabs.)

Name what you're challenging (be it a chord, scale, or arpeggio).

For scales and arpeggios, name the type of scale and the key.
For chords, just name it.

OK, that said, let's start off with an exotic (but not very exotic-sounding) one:

Scale:
|------------------
|------------------
|------------------
|------------5-7--
|------5-7--------
|-5-7-------------

I think it's a kind of Chinese scale. Shang, that is.

Enigmatic scale?
I will show you something different from either
Your shadow in the morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you
I will show you fear in a handful of dust

Sweet!

Here's an interesting one, chosen at random from a scales book.

|------------------------------|
|------------------------------|
|----------------------3---5--|
|-------------4---7-----------|
|--3--4--7-------------------|
|------------------------------|
I will show you something different from either
Your shadow in the morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you
I will show you fear in a handful of dust

Could we have more "musical" scale examples?

So its not just a matter of figuring out the intervals from the root and googling it? (not that im saying thats what you're doing, but still...)
#27
Yeah...I actually did recognize the enigmatic scale, but you have a point. So here's something a little more "musical".

|-------x-----------|
|-------5-----------|
|-------5-----------|
|-------x-----------|
|-------3-----------|
|-------5-----------|

EDIT: Very close, viciodk. But there's no fifth.

**** it, sorry for the double post but IE's acting up.

I apparently didn't press the 7 hard enough -- Edim7/G

In the sense of dim7 being the half dim, of course... since I'm hella lazy, and you should be too

I would call it Gm6 since the bass is playing the notes of a Gm triad. But you could also call it Em7b5/G as Corwinoid proposes.
#34
Schecky, did you mean to type out 7 strings?

If the X between the 8 and the 7 were omitted, I'd call it Gm6 like viciodk...
#35
I didn't even notice there are 7 lines

I was just looking at it the way psychodelia described (with the X between the 8 and 7 omitted).
#37
I'd also say it's an Gm6
