I'm pretty sure lawsuit ibanez are the lowest quality out of all the lawsuit range, the greco, burny and tokai are comparable or superior to the gibsons of the era, but I don't think the ibanez were, they only sell for half the price that the other lawsuits sell for, so either that's just because they exported more to the US, or because the sound/quality is inferior to the others.

Since you are from melbourne, if you haven't already you should have a look at the music swop shop

And just tell them you are looking for a lawsuit era SG, and when somebody brings one in they will call you. They sell consignment, so they are much cheaper than the store you are looking at.

Well I live in brisbane and have bought stuff from that store, even with up to $100 shipping they are still worth buying through, most second hand stores seem to sell whatever gear they buy used at a 100% markup which means you could just about buy it new, this place only makes 17.5%, either go through them or just buy through classsifieds or ebay. There is a guy on ebay who sells lawsuit brand guitars that are only for the japanese domestic market, so they aren't 30 years old but still rival gibson and fender:

Actually, the lawsuit Ibanez guitars were actually very very good copies. Why do you think they were cancelled after a court case so quickly?!?!

They were amazing copies, and gave Gibson a lot to worry about.

I think it would be worth a shot at the right price and condition.

Not unless they haven't been taken care of since they were made. There are plenty of guitars copies around today that gibson and fender have no problem with, because the quality is crap and it makes their own model's look better. The lawsuits were only threatened because those japanese companies were making guitars a fraction of the price of real gibsons or fenders, that sounded really good. Why buy a gibson when you could buy a greco model that sounded just as good at 1/4 the price? That's why after the lawsuits were threatened the companies agreed to only sell to the japan domestic market.
