I'm tabbing a song that needs dotted notes to sound right. I've been trying to figure it out by myself, but to no avail. If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Dotted notes mean the duration is 50% longer than the undotted note. Think of it has a dotted half note being a quarter note longer than a half note, a dotted quarter note being an eighth note longer than a quarter note etc.
If the dot is above (or below) the note than it means it is a staccato note and should be short and clipped.

If it is next to the note then read the guy above's post.
There is also double dotted notes. Which is adding half of the half value, 1 3/4.
