As a result of a few things done right in life, I will be seeing a good amount of cash flow coming my way and I'm considering spending on a new bass rig. The only thing is, I'm not to sure what I need, so maybe some of you could give your opinion.

At the moment I am playing in a loud, noisy, mathy/grindcore sorta thing with just 6 string bass, drums and vocals. For my live setup I am running two 8 ohm Mesa/Boogie cabs(ones a 2x15, and the other one has a 15, 10, 6, and a tweeter) in stereo, powered by a small Ampeg B2re which puts out 250w@8ohms. At the moment I'm not really satisfied with my rig, the mesa cabs are huge and very annoying to carry around.

So I have some new ideas for a rig.

-Sell the Mesa cabs and get a set of 2 8 ohm 4x10 avatar cabinets to run thru my B2re

-Sell my Mesa cabs and my b2re head and buy an SVT-4 head with 2 4 ohm 4x10 avatar cabinets

-I need some more ideas.

I'm really looking to get a full sound, because my bass is the only stringed instrument in the band(thats right, no guitar). I really dont have room for 8x10 cabinets or anything so that is sort of out of the question... so yeah. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

edit: Maybe 6x10s wouldn't be out of the question.

IMO...

Sell the Mesa cabs, and the B2re, buy a used Mesa/Boogie 400+ head and either one 410 or two 212's.

Thanks for the input, but I'm not too sure about that. I really like to run my cabs in stereo, so I would need at least 2 of them, and I don't know if two 2x12s would be able to fully handle the upper tonal range of a 6 string bass(sometimes thru a whammy pedal!)

I'm considering an Ampeg svt4-pro with 2 ampeg 6x10 cabs.

Any particular reason why Ampeg?

I ask because Mesa's are a bit more hi-fi and might fit the upper range stuff you're into.

I like the Ampeg svt 4 because it "put's out" pardon the pun. Ampeg svt 4 is a powerful head at a relativley inexpensive price that offers good tone and whanot. The cabs I can go either way on, Ampeg 6x10s just seemed like the most accesible and best for the money.

Oh yeah, and if any of you guys know the band Lightning Bolt, I'm not looking for a setup as elaborate as that.

You and I should trade cabs. Your Mesa 15+10+6 for my Avatar 4x10.

What model is that 15+10+6, anyway?

The first thing I'd get if I were you is a more powerful head. You want full sound? Get more headroom. You could just add a power amp to your current head, if you like its tone.
Computer programmers are loopy.
- That's one of my own!

im not exactly sure on the 10+6.. if those are the right sizes or not, it definetly has a 15 ill look into it. But it is part of the Mesa RoadReady series. Seeing the distance we live apart, I'm not sure we could do a trade, considering this thing weighs alot and would cost more in dollars than pounds it weighs to ship it.

Haha, yeah, the RoadReady cabs are helluva heavy.

Why are you thinking of going from Mesa/Boogie to Avatar? Seems like a step down.

At this point I'm a little less condered about tone now that I'm using a distortion and the Avatars would be a hell of a lot easier for me to transport, and we have a good amount of gigs coming up(that involve carrying equipment up flights of stairs!) Even ampeg 6x10s would be easier because they aren't as box shaped and heavy as the two roadready's I have.
