I'm not really going to be of much help but I'd like to share some experiences of playing guitar/bass for girls to impress them...And let me tell you...It doesnt really have to look hard to impress her...

Guitar Example: I played "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica all the way through for this one girl I know...A really beautiful song, right?, nice guitar lines, semi-difficult solos...Yea, she was impressed for like 5 seconds and she said "You're good", but she quickly became bored becuase she'd never heard the song before...So I pulled out a random song out of my ass to end the awkward silence and that song was "American Idiot" (at the time this song was "all the rage"), no more than 5 seconds into the annoying 3 powerchord riff she jumps around and says "OMG YOU KNOW THAT SONG YOU"RE SO AWESOME!!!11!"...Yea I impressed her pretty good...

Bass Example: I played "Aeroplane" for this other girl I know when she entered my room and said "Thats a pretty guitar you got there!"...After telling her it was a bass she said she didnt know what that was and wanted me to play for her...So I played Aeroplane the Red Hot Chilli Peppers...You know, it has a nice, smooth, intro/chorus thing, a fun, funky and seemingly difficult slap line in the verse, and a good bass solo as an outro...Yea, I got the same reaction with this as I got with the Metallica song I played for the other girl...She was like "Wow, you're good on that bass guitar"...then she got bored because she didnt recognize the song and didnt appreciate its awesomeness I guess...So then I whip out that oh-so-famous bassline...7 NATION ARMY!...After playing it once she starts getting all excited and before I know it she jumps on my lap and starts singing along and bobbing her head and then starts exclaiming that I'm "SO FRIGGIN AWESOME!"...etc...etc...

You catch my drift?...If you know your audience you dont need to play anything fancy...The songs I played arent fancy IMO but I guess they were to the girls...

and if you still want to play something with a good groove then...uhh...watch some porn...I dunno much about funk music...

interesting...even if Seven Nation Army wasn't done on a bass...
but go with Superfreak, fun song to play or learn Pressure by Queen (because of course they would recognize it as vinella ice)

it was recorded on bass, but he uses an octave pedal live

and if you want to just impress chicks, just play that annoying **** on the radio, or popular songs...i'm not trying to sound sexist, but a lot of girls listen to that kind of music, so if you figure out the bassline/guitar riff to some of those songs, then you'll be good

u can play her classical thump and she probably woudlnt care cause 1 u'd look stupid and she doesnt know who wooten is.

not a lot of girls like metallica or songs from one hot minute.

impress her by doing something she'd like. just because u play an instrument doesnt mean its all about what you can play to "impress" her with. if u can make 3 notes sound awesome it'll do perfectly. its still a relationship, and u'd just look cockey and unappealing if it was just a show piece.

i played californication on an acoustic guitar for some of my friends a few days ago. the 2 chords in the pre-chorus was definately the best part of the song to those ppl, and i dont blame them, plus i got really into the chorus i was bobbing my head and **** they just had to feel the emotion i played it with. know what i mean?

simple is good. less is more.
#21
I agree with xenocide730. A girl who is a non-musician will be more impressed if you can play her favorite songs, which are usually hits on the charts. There are a few exceptions; once in a while a girl will be happy if you can play Pantera or Velvet Underground, but for me at least they are exceptions.

Although, now that I think about it, I never really play guitar for girlfriends. If I start playing around them, I'll start practicing and they'll get bored, so I've never really tried to use guitar to impress them. I mostly see girls' reactions at shows.
#22
I pulled a barmaid at soundcheck once when i played the Sandy and Danny song from Grease. she melted. no joke!

I agree though, to impress someone just play something they can recognise. My mum gets impressed at my guitar playing when i change from c to g with a few hammers. same on my bass.. i just play something nice and easy, try Stand By Me, always a winner. Too Young To Die by jamiroquai is good too
#24
I find it easiest to impress on the piano more than any other instrument for some reason.

Also, if you play in a band, ask her to come and see your band play, that's a much better way. women love to see a man on stage performing

if you want emotion, play her portrait of tracy by jaco pastorius.

i seriously **** my pants whenever i get into that really tense bit before the reprise

play the Orion bass solo (or riff, whatever you want to call it) by Metallica

You realize that at 3:00 minutes that is NOT a solo. That is when the song changes tempo and becomes more bass-driven with the bass riff. That's NOT the bass solo the song is known for. Give 6:36 a try. THAT'S the super-complicated distorted bass solo that Orion is known for.
haha

I would have been impressed by Nothing Else Matters! Hmm I'd just go with something easily recognizable, like the others have said. Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet would be a subtle hint, might not be funky, but easy to sing and play at the same time if you're a decent singer aswell.
#29
I would've been impressed with nothing else matters, or some challenging guitar/bass piece. But that's because I play guitar, I think...anyway, why dont you try any of those classic pop songs, like I dont know, "come up and see me"? Im sure it would be perfect.
I'm not going to sig anyone.

Ya, a lot of girls like that movie, and the songs are easily recognizable...although i wouldn't call it a movie, just b/c it annoyes the **** out of me...and i wouldn't call them songs, mainly cause i hate the movie...*goes and jumps off a cliff to escape the horribleness of life..(obviously cause of Grease)*

i think we can all agree that won't impress her -.-

Maybe you could play her some Cannible Corpse(sp?) she'd be like "OMG CANNIBLE CORPSE I LOVE THEM OMFG!" then she'd sing the words to Frantic Dissembowlment "KIDNEYS EXPOSED/THE PANCREAS FLEW/THE STOMACH DELETED/ THE SPLEEN I DID CHEW!" Then you'd have sex and she'd eat your brains.

Play acoustic guitar. Something sappy. Like

James Blunt-You're Beautiful
Maroon 5-She Will Be Loved
Green Day-Time of Your Life
Jeff Buckley-Hallelujah

Honestly, there are tons of songs . . . just don't try to show off-she'll be more impressed by how 'sweet' you are.

I agree, I wish there was a big guitar tab of current top 40 hits, all transposed to acoustic....That would help so many guys on here get laid.
#38
You boys have no idea how to woo a woman. Write her a damn song yourself. it needn't be long. You will get more laid than you ever have, and she will never forget it and tell all her friends and you will be the ****ing MAN. trust me i've done it.
