Hi, my latest musical venture is a mathy/grindcore/jazz band with only six string bass, drums, and vocals.

I need a distortion pedal or two that together, will cover the entire range of a bass and a bass thru a whammy 1 octave up. I noticed the guy from Lightning Bolt uses a Boss Super Overdrive and a Boss Bass Overdrive. Does anyone recommend these two together? I need good distorted tones that wont compromise my low end. Anyone with ideas will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

IMO the bass overdrive doesn't do too well in really making your tone nice and dirty and distorted, just kinda makes it sound fatter. eh.

Maybe something like a Fulltone Bass driver?

I heard the MXR Blowtorch doesn't lose any lowend cuz it focuses distortion on the midrange. I'd try that out at a guitar store and see if it helps your sound.

The Boss ODB3 is one of the few that maintains low end.
For a high end distortion I like GK's distortion sound. I have no idea how well they'd mix though.

Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi!!!

Its fuzz, but it really covers both bass and treble. My absolute favorite effect pedal ever made.

thats probably because overdrive isnt real distortion, but overdrive. u can get it pretty nasty by cranking the gain, but its still overdrive.

for soemthing like this, u might want to get a custom pedal made, johnswift has a friend that can do that for u, ask him for his e-mail. it wont run anymore than $200+shipping, but since ur planning on 2 pedals anyways, shouldnt be a problem.
