So my grandpa died and it's all sad and all, but he left me a guitar he bought along time ago and I don't really play that much at all. But it looks like a pretty good guitar, but im not sure. It was still in the box and stuff and mt grandma didn';t even know he had it for me until he died. He was going to givce it to me for my birthday.

Okay, bottom line is I need some info on this guitar, but I can't find anything online

it's a martin d40, or that's what it says on my guitar and package. Well can someone tell me if this is a decent guitar and if I have a good chance of selling it? I only want a couple hundred bucks for it.

On this it says that its worth almost three grand new. I dont think that you should sell it for such a low price.

Your Grandfather bought you a very expensive acoustic guitar. You should try to learn to play it since he spent a lot of money on it, but it's your decision not mine. Hopefully you will make the right one.

Your Martin D40's price listing is on this site.

exactly. because ur gramps bought it for u and never got the chance to give it to u, i think u should keep it with u always. Theres more sentimental value in that guitar than can be paid in dollars. Some things are priceless and, in my opinion, your guitar is one of them.

Plus its a ****ing kick ass acoustic man!

I say go ahead and sell a three thousand dollar guitar that your deceased grandfather left you for ten times less than what it's worth. A man isn't really a man until he does something he regrets for the REST OF HIS LIFE.

Something I noticed: The beginning - "So my Grandpa died and it's sad and all..."

Jeez kid, you sound really broken up about it, enough so that you would sell your last memory of your grandpa. Get some values man. That's the bigger issue at hand.

I dunno... Selling a $3000 martin guitar for a couple hundred dollars is a pretty big issue, dude.

Okay so.....

I took it to guitar center and this type of guitar has had some past with this area...

Meaning? It's stolen...

My grandpa bought it from one of his "friends" (junkie) for a couple hundred bucks.
Well his friend has broken into a guitar store and stole a HELL of alot of guitars. He was arrested but they could get ahold of the evidence.
Well all of this was along time ago and the insurance information and refunds have already gone through... meaning this guitar doesn't exist...
At least this is waht the police told me. The guys at guitar center thought I stole it when they called in the serial number. So the cops came and took me downtown and then we straightrened it all out.

Welol I guess I will keep it considering if I try to sell it it woulkd look really really bad. But why the hell is it worth 3 grand? What is the major diffrence between a guita worth $750 and 3 grand?
An eye for an eye is a fair trade.

Quality.

You don't charge $3000 for a guitar that can be made for $750.
And you don't charge $750 for a guitar that can be made for $3000.

Basically, you're talking inlay quality, wood quality, bracing quality, saddle quality, finish quality, damn fine tone control throughout the body, quality bookmatching, and all kinds of other crap that you don't appreciate until you don't have it.

Shut up and play the guitar your grandpa bought for you. What are you even thinking, trying to sell that thing? You should be kicked in the cods.
#39
Keep it, learn to play it and learn to love it.

What makes it 3 grand as opposed to 1 grand? A 2 grand price difference. There are other differences, but you won't appreciate them until you get into guitar playing and then go try a 1 grand guitar.
