well, ive been looking around for a new amp, to play at shows and jamming and stuff

and i was thinking about getting this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crate-GLX1200HG412-FullStack-Package?sku=487712

but the problem is the money, im looking to find an amp thats good for like metal/blues/punk/alternative type music, cuz thats what my bands plays, but also

i was wandering if i could get this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crate-GT1200HG412SL-Half-Stack?sku=487796

and connect this cab to the half stack: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crate-G412-100W-4x12-Cab?sku=487711

any other suggestions would be helpful

but if u suggest something, can u tell me why u like it, not just "get the blah blah blah"

thanks

/H\

P.S. is it possible to just buy 2 of the same cabs and buy the head that goes with it and just connect them???

the amps you have there are not really versitile, they basically play metal and hard rock. no real in between, so forget about anything other than heavy distortion. i have the first one and a good freind of mine has the 2nd. save your money and get something really versitile.

Like an ashdown or something, they're pretty versatile... I think.

WTF a Full stack is immense overkill to 'play at shows and jamming and stuff' Even a half stack would probably be too much in a lot of cases. I say get yourself a good combo. With the $1000 you could spend on that full stack you could get an excellent combo

^ Seconded, Just get yourself a nice 30-50 watt tube combo. It'll sound much better than those solid state crates. Check out a Marshall JCM 800 for the heavier stuff, a peavey classic 30 for all around, and maybe some traynors, laneys, and fenders. You could also use the leftover money for some good effects. (Go with an OD)

JCM800 is quality. Just because you are getting a deal doesn't mean its ****ty. eBay has buyer protection so as long as that ad states that it works, then you will be fine. eBay is a great place to get good deals. For $1000, you can get a lot better than an SS stack. You could get a 50 watt JCM800 combo and you would be fine. Maybe a AT-212 from B-52. Not many people know about them but they are great for the price. and loud as hell. I have the stack version. But ya, you don't need a full stack.
