I've only got a single they released a couple of years ago. Decent band, just not amazing.

I have uh...what do I have. I have the album with "Sugar Cube" on it. It's alright, I guess, I've only listened to it through like twice. I guess that album is I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One.

Their murdering the classics radio idea is brilliant and awesome, and I wish I were a huge Yo La Tengo fan so I could appreciate it more.

The album title "I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass" cracks me up, so I want it.

What kind of music are they? I've been recommended them. All I know is they have a song about going to Tony Orlando's house.

thats a really hard question.
they were formed by a music critic so theyre kinda conceptualist. if i were to be trite i'd call them noise pop. they were heavily influenced by the soft boys but theirs guitars don't really ring.
they can be quite noisy, but its always within the context of clever pop songs.

yeah i can see a pop structure in their songs as well, but not a sound. I really like their noisy songs. they've been going softer throughout the years though.. "summer sun" reminds me of the beach.

sweet.. i just got it in the mail this week. I do enjoy it quite a bit.

I've heard 'painful' and 'then nothing turned itself inside out' are worty purchases.. but i'm in the same boat as you.

I can hear... is pretty good, but it's nothing to call home about. I've been meaning to check out their other stuff.
#19
I can hear the heartbeating as one is one of the less interesting of their records.

^me too. I think that one has their best track ever.

This thread hasn't been posted in for awhile...

Ahh I got the new album for cheap, it's quite groovsome.

Maybe one of the better releases of this year? I don't know, I think I'll listen to it somemore before passing the compete and total judgment.
#22
after listening to it intenselly since my last post I have to say this is the most ballanced YLT record to date. The Brass section on some of the songs add's so much life to it, it's amazing

They are the worst band when it comes to naming their albums.

"I am not Afraid of you and I will Beat your Ass", wtf

I've heard a few of their songs and they're pretty good...the only one that really sticks out though is "Nuclear War". Its hilarious to hear a choir of children say "its a mother****er, don't you know?"
#27
Man, I thought this band would be good. They did a Urinals cover! but sadly they are pretty dull.

they are a grower...try either "i am not afraid..."or "i can hear the heart..." or "may i sing with me"

They bring power to the weird music geeks of the world.

And that is only one of many reasons why I love them.
