Hello fellow UGers!

I happily traveled to my local Guitar Center (referred to as "GC" further) with a drummer friend of mine, with the reverse name of Anthrax's guitarist. (Yes, that would happen to be Ian Scott)

So I was there for 2 hours. Much more time playing than usual but I wasn't as interested because I was looking for straps, cables, and strings.

The first guitar I pick up is a beauty, well needless to say, a replica of my Artcore. Sounds just the same as mine unplugged, as expected.

Second guitar I pick up, a black-ridden Epiphone G-400 SG for $400. Which is rediculous, because they were having a sale AND that the G-400 has been marked down to $300 at most places. So I pick it up, play it for a bit, and I notice the thickness of the neck. Not quite pleasing. I could barely hear myself over the Mesa Boogie stacks, playing a fine selection of multiple Metallica songs and the occasional Blink-182. This was unsurprising. Not much else to say about that.

Next was a Gibson Flying V, once again, in Black. It was the "true" one, not that Faded special crap. I decided to own a n00b in "The Man Who Sold the World" which was also being played over the speakers. He didn't know the solo, which I knew. That was a good, easy own. Uncomfortable seating, of course being a V and all. Played this one through a Vox AD100VT. Played some Avenged, Cure, and taught my drummer friend to play "Steady, As She Goes" by The Raconteurs. Needless to say, it sounded great, only problem being a sunken pole piece in the bridge, which let up quite a bit of volume. A nice play for the price, but not for me.

PRS SE. Quite the guitar. Smooth as butter, nicely painted, even neck. I think I let go a bit of manliness once I sat down with it. Yes, that's right. Manliness. Definately a steal for $500 compared to the V which was twice as much. Played a couple chords, an original. Felt great for the cash.

Alpine White with Gold Hardware Epi Custom Paul. Not too shabby, but it didn't feel anywhere close to the PRS. Only played this for less than a minute. Got bored quick.

Some green quilt top Washburn with trem. Didn't play on this one much, mainly because it was only $200 but I didn't like it much at all. Pretty slow neck as if my hand was melting over it as I went.

Jackson with EMGHz pickups. Overall, looks nice, played nice, but it had GODDAMN JUMBO FRETS! I started singing about how horridly horrible the frets were. I can't stand them. Felt like I was ripping skin after a bit. Didn't get to try the trem, but it looked solid at least. Jackson design trem.

It was time for another guitar, after bearing the evilness of my drummer friend trying to pick out a cymbal, so I played an Epi Sheraton, natural with a tortoise pickguard. Pleasing to the eye and better sounding. Smooth action, nice neck, etc. etc. Only problems were it's weight and the knobs were placed incorrectly, wherein it read "7" when the guitar was playing at "10". Comparable to my $270 Artcore, but not quite good enough, IMO, to be a $600 guitar.

Finally, I played a $750 natural, flame maple Artcore. I was much impressed by the frets, the overall feel, and unplugged sound. Much improved over my Artcore, especially with the wooden knobs. Very high-end appointments for half the price.

For amps I tried a non-commentable AD100VT, for I only used it for the ownage. I also used a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 60 tube watts. I tried this one out for an MXR Phase 90 I wanted, but I decided my EHX Small Clone can make the same sounds, so I held back buying it. Sounded much nicer than my AD15VT, but not worth it for me due to the size. Probably had more potential as it was at about 1.5 volume.

I ended up buying 2 straps (both kickass Levy's for $12 and $11 bucks ) and 4 sets of strings, 2 GHS 10s and 2 Martin SP 12s.

Thanks for looking at my nice, long spam thread!

Yup its an oppresive modship. Actually no, its just a high percentage of idiots (actual idiots) have caused the mods to have to react like this.

I have my eyes on an Artcore AWD model. Its like a little PRS

Now that Dave is demodded it seems like more threads get locked...even when they are perfectly entertaining. I don't get it.

THE OTHER MODS MUST HAVE IT OUT FOR YOU PED!!! IT'S A CONSPIRACY!

Last time I checked he was still demodded...

Anyway, SuperAnalytical, did GC have the new Epi LP Standard Plain Top? It's supposed to be one of the best non-elitist Epi LP's...

Not sure, I didn't check the Epi's much. I was more interested in trying out expensive stuff.

^It would be hilarious to walk into guitar center and say: "I'm looking to buy a new guitar. Could I try out some nice Gibson Custom Shop Les Pauls?" Then, proceed to try a bunch of them.

Then, put the last one back and go buy a $99 Squire.

Hmmm I think I might do that some time.

Oh wait, I actually have!

When I bought my Stagg Tele, I misread a price tag on a Fender Tele. I thought it said $250, so I asked to try it. Needless to say, it ended up being close to $3000. Still played like crap though. It was a 70s Custom Shop Too. Disappointment at it's greatest.

Sometimes I seriously wonder if buying a $3000 guitar would actually be worth it. Especially when you see all of these other guitars made with the same stuff for like $500...A few upgrades and that $500 guitar can sound just as good.

Also, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who found the Vox AVT100 to be mediocre.

Well, it's exactly like the AD15VT I own, just louder. Unless I was desperate for a larger amp, I wouldn't buy it.

The AD15 is good and all, but nothing special. I don't use the effects all that often, and the amp channels are really only copies of themselves with mixed EQs.
#15
^I wasn't really impressed with the effects myself. They sounded way too digital.

Pointless posts that are of no use to anyone. Like...

"WTFBBQ!! I waz jus @ gtr centur and dey had diz guitar and it waz da shiznit LOL!!!11"

Technically, this isn't a spam thread. It's more of a joke title for a thread thats actually useful.

Epi Dots, to me, are the equivalent to Squiers in respects to hollowbodies. I haven't played one that didn't sound horribly restricted, nasally and weezy really. I hate the sound drain in them, the center block does nothing to improve it.

This is why I went with an Ibanez Artcore.

And I agree, I get majorly bored having to hear about complaints, MGs, etc.

Artcores are just beautiful. I just wish they made the Af75 Torquoise one without a bigsby-lite. The tuning was horrid.
Theres a baeutiful Af something in one of my fave guitar shops. I havent played it yet cos I know i'll buy it... shame...

Yeah, color availability for certain Artcore models is low. I was lucky enough to get an older model full blue one, not that (IMO) shoddy looking blue sunburst. Only thing I could possibly complain about with mine is fret access. But I'm not too worried about that.

thanks for info spoon man. i wish more guys tried guitars and reported back, just to keep up wt the new models.

and ped, i saw ur thread, i modded what i think is the same tele. was a fun project. good luck.

Hey, no problem Jenny.

Let's see, so far we've had Dave, Ped, and me...only leaves most of UG to pick up where we left off...

I'll try to get to some new models next time, which should be soon enough. My bassist friend wants a bass stack, an electric, and a nice amp so I'll be going with him. I also will need in the future a decent clean-based combo (not that the Ad15 doesn't do that, but I might like it louder ) and a dirty-based combo.
#27
i almost bought a used blues cube 60, but picked up the blues jnr instead.

if ur not sure u want tube and if u can find a used one around, check it out.
its a great clean-combo amp, that can scream when u want it to.

Only issue I would have with the Blues Jr. is having no Bass, Mid, Treble controls. If I get my booster pedal finished, then I can can go back to the Radioshack guy I spoke with and get an MXR Equalizer from him, which would be sweet for the Blues Jr.
