I was wondering if anyone could help me decide what electic guitar to buy.

Current guitar is an acoustic Ibanez AC-12 which I have owned in between 5-6 months.

After playing for this brief period I have decided to buy an electric guitar because of my enjoyment in the instrument. Based on the styles of music and the bands that I listen to can somebody recommend a guitar that would suit me.

Bands that I listen to:

Led Zeppelin
Jimi Hendrix
Pearl Jam
Red Hot Chili Peppers
... generally bands fitting around these genres too many to list.

I would like to purchase a guitar anywhere between the price tag of $300-500.

If you would like to make a suggestion state the guitar, an amp that would go well with the guitar, the price tag, and the style(s) it is used to play.

Thanks for the help!
A Fender Fat Strat may suit you well. It has a humbucker for the heavier stuff like Metallica and Zeppelin, but then has Single Coils for Hendrix and RHCP. It goes for about $400 and can play some heavy stuff and cleaner softer stuff.

To xsynesterx06: Oh, contraire my good n00b. That spends less than his budget.

You coul probably get away with a dual humbucker guitar, actually. If you found one you like, however.

A Cheap Squier, why? It's cost effective and mostly good.

That leaves you with $300 for an amp...let's see...
Not a bad buy, nothing for you to screw up on either.
An Epiphone Vintage SG G400 ( cherry red looks best) for $300, and you didnt state if you wanted a practice amp or not, but if thats what you want, go with a Roland Cube 30.
Try Ibanez GAX 30 TR. Quite versatile!!
