this really depends on your taste in music and your style. but if you want a amp with good cleans, the blues junior is a good choice. also try a peavey classic 30.

$400 wont get you a nice tube amp but try looking for a used one.
+1 on the fender blues jr. they are great little amps

nothing wrong with used gear! it has more mojo.
