The reason why it's an iffy choice, because it's a pawn shop and I'm getting a guitar for the summer to customise, so it's mainly the case of buying one here.

My original ideas was no FR, and possibly no dents, missing pieces, etc. (I have seen hell with some guitars in these shops *weeps*)

So here we go... Most are un-common brands, and on a side-note I don't remember them.

1. Dean Flying V, String-thru, 1x HZ pickup, H-H, matte black - £200
2. Stratocaster shape, Fixed FR bridge, gold hardware, H-S-S, black - £199
3. Les Paul shape, Tune-O-Matic, H-H, black (I think) - £???

That's all I remember sadly.

Paint doesn't matter since I'm going to change that, and I know for sure the Les Paul copy is </= £200.

Here's my thinking:

I want the V because, String-thru, HZ and the usually H-H, but I've never had a V
I want the Stratocaster because it is an absolute beast, but it has a FR
I want Les Paul, again, it's a Les Paul shape and it's got a Tune-O-Matic, but I don't know if the others would be better.

NOTE: Stratocaster pickups are possibly EMGs

Bridge - EMG Select Humbucker
Middle - EMG Select Single-Coil
Neck - EMG Select Single-Coil

Hope someone can help. (And hope it's the right part of the forum)

dean definately. you'd be getting a pretty random guitar if you buy either of the other two. plus with dean you get the killer looks

Is a string-thru easy? And also I guess I wouldn't mind the FR on the Strat copy, since it's sexy.

Play them all. Check the playability of each thoroughly.

If the strat has EMG's (check that), and a GOOD floyd rose (tune the guitar, then use it to see whether it keeps tune), then that would be my choice.

If the strat has a bad floyd, drop it off the list immediately.

On the Dean, don't let the HZ influence you, as it is a really bad pickup.

From there, see which guitar plays better to you. Buy the one that plays better, as you plan to upgrade them.

string through i believe is that the strings are attached "through" the body of the guitar, which is easy to change strings (if thats what you meant)

I want to try out HZ's seeing as I have nothing to lose. Because it's basically free if I get the Dean for 200.

And the Strat, I can always replace the bridge (Yes, I would...) and the fact it's fixed (which I've never found a guitar which is fixed)

And you guys would go for the Strat if I didn't want a V?

Also! The Dean has a weird neck (it's sticks out so you see the wood of the neck at the neck pocket)

And the Strat is A-OK except the tarted up fixed bridge.

It could be one in a life time chance (for me) to get those EMGs!

This is gnawing my brain away.

The select emg's aren't all that good. Id just go for the best guitar regardless of pups. Dean probably. You can get new pups as and when.

I'm iffy about that Dean neck, so that means I'll have to get a new neck and pickups - as with the Strat I'll get the bridge and the paint (also the paint with the Dean) and that's me.
