Im looking for some bands who actually have some skill on their guitar.

I really like what Avenged Sevenfold did with City of Evil.

Ive never listened to any of the following bands....are they good on guitar? Do they have some good solos?

Alexisonfire
Atreyu
Killswitch Engaged
Trivium

Anything else that is new...

This dude above me is quite right, Dragonforce...amazing guitarists. That and the guitarists from Into Eternity. Trivium is pretty good as well. O and Children of Bodom, they're stuff is very fun to play.

Alexisonfire had some alright stuff on their self-titled album but their second one kinda slipped. It's more accessible yet more dull.
I really like Atreyu although people seem to hate them a lot. They have this melancholic sound. Check out "Suicide Notes And Butterfly Kisses" and "The Curse". Their guitar parts are easy but sound nice. They also seem to rip off people but I never cared much since everyone rips off everyone.
Trivium is a really good metalcore trash band. They're really talented and the guitar parts are alright.
Also check out Bullet For My Valentine. They're a bit like Trivium, except more emo-ish vocals. The guitar work is simpler than Trivium's though.
All That Remains are an amazing metalcore band. They're a lot heavier and have a more hardcore sound and the guitar parts are alright.
As I Lay Dying are really heavy as well. They're considered metalcore but they have death metal influence.
Darkest Hour and August Burns Red are more hardcore than metalcore.
The Autumn Offering have some kick ass shredders.
If you don't like any of these bands, there's always Iron Maiden. Learn Maiden songs. They're really easy to play but they sound amazing.
Other than that, check out Children Of Bodom, Chimaira, God Forbid, Arch Enemy and don't forget Alice In Chains.

I prefer these bands.

With the exception of Alexisonfire, who I don't mind, the rest are awful.

The guitar parts are nothing that hasn't been done before.

i think alexisonfire's guiatarists are very skilled, just because they dont use their talent to measure notes per second doesnt mean they arent skilled, they write very good music on guitar....anyway check ut between the buried and me, thats some crazy guitarwork, darkest hour has some good guitarwork, might try winds of plague as well

buz and ken from unearth are incredible. both can sweep pick like the wind(ken can do it really well behind his head) and buz just shreds the hell out of his 7 string.
#16
Shadows Fall, God Forbid, and the newer stuff from Lamb of God has good guitar work, as do Trivium. Other than them (and the other bands mentioned so far), good guitar work isn't that common in hardcore/metalcore.

Dillinger Escape Plan have some crazy guitar work, although their music isn't very easy to get into.
Between The Buried And Me, The Fall Of Troy, Psyopus, and Botch have already been mentioned, and are all great.

Thanks!! All these suggestions will keep me busy for a while!

My picks for best guitarists in metalcore would have to be the boys in Between The Buried And Me and Unearth.

I'd agree, both those bands can sweep pick amazingly well.

Unearth does sweeps? Besides One Step Closer, I don't think I've ever heard them do sweeps.

Yeah, I've seen live vids of him doing them behind his head, I'm not sure whether these are on record or whatever though.

EDIT: On finding the video, it was for One Step Away I think, so yeah, you were right.

I think there are also some sweeps on the Zombie Autopilot solo, but the one in One Step Away is amaaaazing anyway. I hope their new album is good because I played the crap out of Oncoming Storm and keep forgetting to buy Stings of Conscience.

Yeah they do the solos running around like crazy, and they jump on giant trampolines lol.

I'm serious, they really do that.
We're only strays.

Hah thats awesome...

do they play the songs just as well? I cant really see them doing the Trough the Fire and Flames solo as well as it is recorded. Or can they?
