ok...im stuck. im in high school and own an epiphone firebird.....i want to buy a gibson sg. but. my money is small. so my question is. is a gibson sg speical worth buying or should i wait longer and buy the standard?

Why not check out the Epi G-400? Even with serious upgrades it won't cost as much as a Gibson Special SG.

edited again: the epi g400 custom is really light/plasticy and i wasnt impressed at all

The standard has better wood (which cannot be replaced easily or at all) than the G-400.

Yes, but really nice pickups will make the G-400's decent wood sound great. You really have to think about Gibson tacking on so much more money just for the name. The upgraded G-400 won't sound as good as the Gibson Standard SG, but it will be close if you get good pups in the G-400.
