Iv'e been a musician for seven years and a guitarist for 1 and a half, and realized i need to study more theory to write better music. I'm taking AP Theory in my High School next year but need some help to were i should start.

search the lessons on here. There is one called theory for beginners or something like that. It's a really good lesson. Try it first.

Sorry, school teachers don't require you to know theory, only be able to play what they give you. And I haven't considered myself as a true musician until I started playing guitar (1.5 years).

I've heard alot of good things about Tonal Harmony. It's around 700 pages long, and starts at the very basics and works up to extremely advanced theory. I ordered a copy last night, I'll tell you about when I recieve the book. It's about 70 dollars new, but you can get it for around 20 dollars on ebay.

I'll probably get a textbook or have alot of notes when I start AP theory next year.
